About the role:

WEG is seeking a highly skilled Sr. Application Engineer to join our growing Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) team. In this role, you will serve as a technical expert and trusted partner to Sales, Project Execution, and Customers throughout the BESS solution development lifecycle. You will help design, size, configure, and support energy storage solutions that meet customer requirements, grid interconnection needs, performance targets, and commercial objectives.

This position is ideal for an electrical engineer who combines deep technical knowledge of battery storage systems with strong customer-facing communication skills and the ability to translate complex technical concepts into practical, value-driven solutions.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist with technical due diligence, risk identification, and mitigation strategies for project opportunities.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve technical issues during project development, deployment, commissioning, and operations.
  • Contribute to the development of standard engineering tools, templates, and best practices to improve proposal quality and turnaround time.
  • Stay current on industry standards, codes, regulations, and emerging technologies related to battery storage, power conversion systems, and grid integration.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering is preferred. A degree in a related field from a 4-year college or university, or equivalent related work experience will also be considered.

Knowledge/Training

  • Strong understanding of utility-scale BESS architecture, including batteries, inverters, transformers, switchgear, controls, and protection systems.
  • Experience supporting customer-facing technical sales or project development activities.
  • Ability to analyze technical requirements and translate them into practical system solutions.
  • Proficiency with engineering drawings, technical specifications, and performance modeling tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in application engineering, systems engineering, power systems, renewable energy, or battery storage.
  • Experience with grid interconnection studies, SCADA, EMS, PPC, or utility coordination.
