Summary

Ryder is a leading third-party logistics (3PL) provider, providing technology-driven supply chain, dedicated transportation, and fleet management solutions to companies of all sizes from emerging retailers to some of the world's most known brands.

We are looking for an Application Development Lead who is a technical expert that provides leadership in the design, development and delivery of technology enabled applications, products and services within a computing systems environment. Technical leads provide solutions to technical issues and are responsible for meeting development schedules and ensuring the delivered solution meets the technical specifications and design requirements.

As an Application Development Lead, you will play a critical role with initiatives aimed at enhancing, remediating, transforming, modernizing and supporting application systems and platforms across a wide variety of technologies. You will engage with solution architects, technical leads, security, infrastructure and various other roles to drive successful delivery.

This is a fast-paced environment requiring the ability to provide technical leadership for multiple initiatives in parallel. This role requires hands-on & close partnership with multiple technology teams and business stakeholders to provide solutions for a wide range of technical initiatives to drive the delivery of project activities.

This role requires the right person that will play a major role in identifying impact, resolving technical barriers that would hinder success and providing executive updates. Responsible for ensuring process adherence for security, audit compliance, operational and technology improvements.

In addition, this role is accountable for ensuring that application solutions are designed, deployed, and operating on secure, scalable, and resilient infrastructure platforms. This includes close alignment with infrastructure, cloud, and security teams to ensure optimal performance, availability, disaster recovery readiness, and compliance with security & enterprise standards. Works as a liaison between the application teams, infrastructure, security and audit.

Essential Functions

  • Leads design and implementation of technology products and applications utilizing best practices and modern design patterns
  • Leads the coordination of systems installation and software testing with other technologists through all phases of the software development life cycle
  • Leads development initiatives to modernize and remediate technical debt for technology products and applications
  • Assists application teams and users with the isolation and resolution of software issues by leading root-cause analysis providing options for resolution and recommendations
  • Partner with Infrastructure, Cloud, and Security teams to design and implement scalable, highly available, and resilient platforms
  • Ensure applications are designed with infrastructure considerations including capacity planning, performance tuning, failover, and recovery
  • Drive adoption of cloud-native architectures, containerization, and platform engineering practices where applicable
  • Oversee environment strategy (DEV, QA, UAT, PROD) ensuring consistency, automation, and governance across environments
  • Ensure observability (monitoring, logging, alerting) is in place to support proactive issue detection and performance management
  • Collaborate on disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity strategies, including testing and validation of recovery objectives (RTO/RPO)
  • Ensure infrastructure security standards, patching, and vulnerability remediation are incorporated into application lifecycle
  • Support infrastructure cost optimization initiatives through efficient resource utilization and architectural decisions

Additional Responsibilities

  • Partners with security, infrastructure and business to establish long-term strategic business and systems objectives
  • Addresses day-to-day production support issues by driving resolution for fixes
  • Works with team members (technical and basis) and subject matter experts (end users) to produce requirements and design documents. Documents all specifications and requirements for implementation and development of Business Process Procedures (BPPs)
  • Provides support for functional testing to ensure that business requirements are being met while following technical standards
  • Interacts with technology and business process team members to drive successful execution and delivery
  • Reviews current functionality and processes and recommends process and system improvements
  • Documents and support disaster recovery and resiliency
  • Leads and participates in enhancements and system upgrades, patches and remediation efforts
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • 5 years or more in in application development or technology management OR related experience OR Master's degree with 2+ years of relevant experience, Required
  • MS-SQL/SSIS-SSRS Expert, Required

  • C#/.Net/ASP Beginner, Required
  • Web Services/API Beginner, Required
  • Manhattan SCALE / SCI Intermediate, Preferred

The compensation offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's relevant experience; education, including relevant degrees or certifications; work location; market data/ranges; internal equity; internal salary ranges; etc. The position may also be eligible to receive an annual bonus, commission, and/or long-term incentive plan based on the level and/or type.
