Job description

As Director - Actuary, you will provide strategic guidance to senior management in the Actuarial and CRM departments on complex actuarial matters. Your role will focus on overseeing the Actuarial Modeling and Application Development Functions. The Actuarial Modeling function is responsible for developing and maintaining financial cash flow models used for IFRS and statutory reporting, as well as business function models for asset‑liability management, cash flow testing, and capital management. Concurrently, the Application Development function develops and supports web‑based technologies that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of Actuarial Financial Reporting processes.

In this pivotal position, you will drive technological advancement within the Actuarial department, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and fostering ongoing modernization. Your efforts will be crucial in integrating cutting‑edge technologies, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, to optimize actuarial processes and outcomes. Leveraging AI will enable enhanced data analysis, predictive modeling, and decision‑making capabilities, further elevating the department's performance and efficiency. You will report directly to the AVP Actuary of the Modeling & Systems team, collaborating closely to achieve strategic objectives and deliver exceptional results.

The ideal candidate will be a forward‑thinking visionary, tasked with shaping the future of technology within the Modeling and Systems function that supports Actuarial operations. You will be responsible for creating strategic plans and setting ambitious goals for the integration and utilization of emerging technologies and best practices to advance our Actuarial technology landscape. Your ability to understand and leverage cutting‑edge innovations will be key to driving progress and efficiency in our processes.

What you do
  • Develop strategic initiatives and establish ambitious objectives for incorporating and utilizing emerging technologies and best practices to enhance the Actuarial technology framework.
  • Identify and apply cutting‑edge innovations to enhance progress and efficiency in Actuarial processes, ensuring the department maintains a leading position in industry advancements.
  • Guide the Actuarial Modeling Function, focusing on financial statement modeling, IFRS and statutory reporting, and business function modeling.
  • Oversee the Application Development Function, supporting technology that enhances the Actuarial capabilities and promotes comprehensive technology ecosystem ownership.
  • Leverage AI and machine learning for enhanced data analysis, predictive modeling, and decision‑making capabilities.
  • Manage, train, and/or direct the work of other Actuaries and technology professionals, providing employee and career development.
  • Engage with various stakeholders to communicate the value and impact of technological advancements and foster a culture of continuous improvement and modernization within the department.
  • Utilize artificial intelligence tools and resources (e.g. generative AI).
What you bring
  • 11+ years' experience required in Actuarial field with some experience managing teams
  • Four‑year degree required in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, Engineering, or related field
  • Achieved FSA
  • You must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring immigration sponsorship now or in the future. This includes holders of H-1B, H4, L-1, L-2, TN, OPT, CPT, and other non‑immigrant visas.

Range: $117,000 -$234,000

Actual base salary may vary based upon factors such as relevant experience, qualifications, internal equity of peers, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual incentive program.
