Job description

Position Overview
The Application Developer at Spotless Brands (the "Company") is a key member of the IT department, responsible for both the development and ongoing support of the Company's portfolio of applications. This role combines hands-on software development with the operational expertise required to maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and custom-built solutions across all Company brands. The Application Developer is a vital resource in ensuring the operational integrity and continuous improvement of our applications landscape, including Point of Sale (POS), ERP/Accounting, HCM/HRIS, maintenance, marketing, back office, productivity, and collaboration systems. This individual will contribute to the full software development lifecycle while also serving as a skilled support resource - analyzing and resolving complex issues, driving system enhancements, and partnering with business stakeholders to ensure the efficiency and success of our business operations.
Essential Functions (Other Duties as Assigned)
Application Support and Maintenance
  • Provide expert-level support and maintenance for a wide range of business applications, including POS, ERP/Accounting, HCM/HRIS, and other critical systems.
  • Analyze and resolve complex issues reported by end-users, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.
  • Conduct regular system audits and perform maintenance tasks to ensure optimal performance and security.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for application optimization and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate with application vendors for issue resolution and software updates, maintaining strong professional relationships.

Application Development
  • Design, develop, test, and deploy software applications and enhancements in support of business requirements across all Company brands.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code using object-oriented programming principles in languages including C#, Java, and C++.
  • Develop and maintain scripts and automation tools using Python to improve operational efficiency and data workflows.
  • Lead the development and implementation of system enhancements and new functionalities to meet business requirements.
  • Build and maintain integrations between business applications, including POS, ERP, HCM/HRIS, and third-party platforms.

Database and Data Management
  • Write, optimize, and maintain complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and scripts across relational database platforms.
  • Support database design, schema management, and performance tuning in collaboration with the applications team.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of data pipelines and reporting solutions that support business intelligence needs.

Cloud and Infrastructure
  • Develop and deploy applications utilizing Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud platforms, including compute, storage, and serverless services.
  • Apply basic networking knowledge (DNS, TCP/IP, VPNs, firewalls, load balancing) to support application connectivity, security, and performance.
  • Collaborate with the IT Infrastructure and Cybersecurity teams to ensure applications meet security and compliance standards.

Stakeholder Engagement and Project Management
  • Work closely with business stakeholders to understand their needs and enhance application functionality and performance.
  • Manage projects related to application upgrades, integrations, and new deployments, ensuring timely completion within budget.
  • Train and mentor junior developers and support analysts and end-users on application features and best practices.

Documentation
  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation on application configurations, processes, troubleshooting guides, design specifications, API documentation, and release notes.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in software development or application engineering.
  • Proficiency in one or more object-oriented programming languages: C#, Java, or C++.
  • Proficiency in Python for scripting, automation, or data processing tasks.
  • Strong SQL skills including query writing, stored procedures, and database troubleshooting across platforms such as SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure or AWS cloud services.
  • Working knowledge of basic networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S, VPN, and firewall configurations.
  • Experience with software development lifecycle (SDLC), version control (Git), and Agile or Scrum methodologies.
  • Experience supporting or integrating with POS, ERP, or HCM/HRIS systems is preferred but not required.
  • Experience in the car wash or retail industry is a plus.
