YOUR IMPACT STARTS HERE
We're looking for a Project Design Engineer - Coupling Technology to join our Corporate Engineering team in Easton, PA. In this role, you'll own the development of Victaulic coupling products from concept through market release, reporting to the Senior Manager of Coupling Technology - Engineering. You'll lead multi-departmental teams through detailed design, testing, and production, working closely with Product Management, Marketing, Sales, and Application Engineering to bring products from idea to reality. This is an opportunity to shape the next generation of Victaulic coupling technology, with monthly travel to agencies, vendors, and manufacturing sites in support of your projects.
WHAT YOU'LL BUILD & OWN
  • Lead concept development - generating design ideas, modeling concepts through drawings and hardware, and presenting them clearly to stakeholders
  • Partner with Product Management, Marketing, and Sales to refine concepts against customer requirements, manufacturing, sourcing, and quality needs
  • Estimate initial design costs and develop alternatives to hit product cost targets
  • Prepare and present project and procurement authorizations to management
  • Lead a multi-departmental team through detailed design, drawing review and approval, and vendor selection
  • Oversee prototyping, testing against requirements, and resolution of design and tolerance issues
  • Lead design reviews to confirm customer and performance requirements are met
  • Develop Engineering Instructions/Procedures/Specifications (EI/EP/ES) as appropriate
  • Participate in tooling selection and approve tooling based on sample results
  • Support evaluation of pilot production runs and resolve production issues
  • Prepare technical literature and train Marketing, Sales, and Application Engineering on new products
  • Support Application Engineering with usage recommendations for existing product technology
  • Travel monthly to agencies, vendors, and manufacturing sites in support of assigned projects
  • Contribute new product ideas that differentiate Victaulic from the competition

WHAT YOU BRING
  • BS or MS in an appropriate engineering field
  • 5-10 years of commercially successful product development or related engineering experience
  • Proven track record managing multiple, successful, cross-functional projects from concept through production
  • Strong creative problem-solving skills, with the ability to generate design concepts that meet project requirements
  • Demonstrated business acumen and strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Required experience with FEA (Finite Element Analysis)
  • Required proficiency in 3D CAD software
  • Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes including injection molding, casting, machining, welding, and 3D printing
  • Familiarity with designing using elastomers, plastics, composites, and metals
  • Comfort working hands-on in a laboratory environment with hand tools and light machinery
  • Proficiency in mathematical modeling of complex mechanical designs, including analytical and numerical methods for evaluating stress, fatigue, pressure, and dynamic loads in piping and coupling systems

  • Knowledge and experience with pressure vessels, piping, fluid control devices, and/or pumps
  • Experience with Abaqus for FEA and SolidWorks for 3D CAD
  • Familiarity with design optimization and automation via parametric study and scripting (Python)
  • Experience incorporating AI-assisted tools - such as generative design, machine learning-based simulation, or AI-driven CAD workflows - into the engineering design process

COMPENSATION
The base salary range for this position will be determined based on experience, qualifications, skills, and geographic location. This role is also eligible for the full benefits package described above.
