Job description

Director of Recruitment & Applicant Experience
Department: Community Engagement & Programming
Employment Type: Full Time
Location: Remote (US)
Compensation: $75,000 - $100,000 / year
Description
Honeymoon Israel seeks a Director of Recruitment & Applicant Experience to steward the journey of every couple who applies to HMI, from first outreach through acceptance. This role is critical to the success of the organization, and the ideal candidate can hold the big picture vision for an excellent applicant experience while also maintaining the attention to detail, organization, and follow-through needed to bring that vision to life.
The Director of Outreach & Engagement works in tight partnership with other members of the program team to ensure that every couple experiences a welcoming, high-touch, and values-driven process from first point of contact through acceptance. The applicant experience is the front door to HMI, and it shapes their relationship and sense of connection to the organization - from initial interest through the program experience and then into the broader community back home.
This role oversees recruitment, interviews, selection, and acceptance processes across HMI communities and supervises the Applicant Experience Coordinators. The right person understands the importance of strong internal processes and systems, as well as creating spaces that promote belonging and care.
About You
  • You have run high-volume, high-touch applicant, admissions, or customer journey processes, and you have the operational discipline to keep dozens of moving parts synchronized.
  • You have demonstrated experience recruiting, engaging or serving people from a wide range of backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences.
  • You bring a creative, outside-the-box approach to recruitment and applicant engagement, with the ability to generate innovative ideas for how to reach and connect with prospective participants.
  • You are curious about what works in other, similar fields - such as admissions, community-organizing, and other high-trust selection processes - and are able to thoughtfully adapt best practices to HMI's unique context.
  • You partner well across teams. You inspire colleagues and they see you as a thought partner and trusted advisor.
  • You care about the couples and their journeys. You understand that an email, virtual interview, or outreach call is a person's first real impression of HM and informs their experience.
  • You showcase strong judgment and data-informed decision-making skills, with the ability to balance program goals, participant experience, and organizational priorities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the full applicant experience across all HMI cities, including recruitment, application, interview, selection, and acceptance.
  • Manage and support the Applicant Experience team, providing coaching, guidance, and opportunities for growth.
  • Partner closely with the Senior Director of Strategy & Impact, Regional Directors, and Director of Marketing & Communications to understand what's resonating with prospective participants and identify emerging trends and successful outreach strategies. Translate these insights with program staff to strengthen recruitment practices in each community.
  • Build and steward the processes, tools, and guidance that support the applicant journey - from recruitment through selection - including interview scheduling, interviewer onboarding and training, and participant communications. Ensure these processes are organized, consistent, and on brand for HMI.
  • Collaborate with program staff to design recruitment strategies, events, and engagement opportunities that align with HMI's commitment to curiosity, exploration, and connection, helping prospective participants encounter HMI's values from their earliest interactions with the organization.
  • Alongside the Senior Director of Strategy & Impact, develop and/or expand interview frameworks, evaluation rubrics, and decision-making tools that promote consistency, fairness, and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Create a robust annual interview training plan, based on prior learnings and best practices. Ensure all internal and external staff are prepared for interviews, and have the tools to engage with couples who may be new to Jewish spaces and/or practices.
  • Lead selection logistics across cohorts. Evaluate applicant demographics and participation trends, in partnership with Regional Directors, ensuring selection process is aligned with HMI's mission and values.
  • Own the applicant-facing voice of HMI in email, forms, and touchpoints. Ensure a consistent, human-centered experience, even at scale.
  • Partner with Marketing & Communications on recruitment campaigns, applicant-facing content, and conversion rates. Use applicant insights and data to help shape messaging and communications that encourage engagement and participation.
  • Act as project manager, leading the planning and coordination of application cycles across communities. Help teams stay aligned on timelines, responsibilities, and priorities. Ensure key milestones are met and that staff have the information and support they need to move the work forward effectively.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date applicant information in Salesforce and related systems. Provide reporting and insights to colleagues and leadership, so they fully understand progress and trends around the overall applicant journey.
  • Communicate proactively and consistently, keeping the Chief Program Officer informed of progress, emerging challenges, and opportunities. Approach problem-solving thoughtfully, bringing forward recommendations and potential solutions when issues arise.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • 5+ years of professional experience in applicant experience, admissions, program operations, customer experience, or a closely related field.
  • Experience managing at least one direct report, with a track record of providing professional development that helps team members grow and succeed.
  • Ability to run complex, deadline-driven, multi-site processes.
  • Proficiency with Salesforce and project management tools such as Asana. High proficiency with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to navigate sensitive conversations with empathy and professionalism.
  • Strong cross-departmental collaboration skills.
  • Experience in a remote, multi-site organization.
  • Passion for Jewish community building and for welcoming young couples into Jewish life.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Position Details
  • This position reports directly to the Chief Program Officer.
  • This position is remote and can be located anywhere in the U.S.
  • International travel to Israel may be required annually. Domestic travel required occasionally.
  • Must have flexibility to attend work-related programs, events, and gatherings on weeknight evenings and weekends when necessary.
  • Benefits include individual medical, dental, vision, paid parental leave, disability and life insurance coverage, and participation in the 403(b) retirement plan with an employer matching program. HMI offers a flexible work environment and office hours, and professional development opportunities. HMI has an unlimited vacation policy and perks to support mental and physical health.
