Job description

Position Summary: The Deli/Bakery Associate is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service in the deli and bakery departments. The associate will be responsible for preparing and serving a variety of deli and bakery items, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organization, and ensuring that all products meet our quality standards. This role involves working closely with customers to fulfill their orders, handle transactions, and offer product recommendations.
Key Responsibilities: (Responsibilities may vary depending on assignment.)
• Provide outstanding customer service.
• Answers phones and takes phone orders correctly.
• Assist customers at both bakery and deli service counters.
• Keep counters, glass, cases, and work areas clean and neat.
• Maintains excellent personal hygiene habits.
• Stocks sales floor area, deli & bakery cases, and supply areas.
• Puts away & keeps supplies and products stored neatly in proper place when deliveries come in.
• Follows all safety and security procedures.
• Slices and weighs meats and cheeses to customer's satisfaction.
• May operate small kitchen appliances, ovens, proofers, warmers, and fryers.
• Takes out trash and disposes of cardboard.
• Performs daily cleaning duties such as sweeping and mopping.
• Opens and closes department without supervision.
• May assist on front-end with cashier and carryout duties as needed.
• Any other responsibilities as assigned by manager.
Work Environment:
  • May be exposed to all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, ice and wind) as well as, inside work with variations in heat, cold, dust, and humidity.
  • Must be able to work around ovens and cooking areas as well as in freezers and walk-in coolers.
  • Fast paced retail environment with work primarily in deli/bakery kitchen.

Physical Requirements:
  • Frequently moves, lifts, and carries merchandise and supplies weighing less than or equal to 30 pounds without assistance. Occassioanlly moves, lifts, and carries merchandise and supplies weighing less than or equal to 60 pounds.
  • Occasionally reaches overhead and below the knees, including pushing, pulling, squatting, kneeling, bending, stooping, crouching, and twisting with or without bearing weight. Occasionally required to climb and/or crawl.
  • Stands or walks continuously throughout the shift.

Qualifications & Other Job Requirements:
• Previous experience in a retail or grocery environment preferred, but not required.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Minimum age requirement = 16 years old.
