Job description

Imagine what you could do here. At Apple, new ideas have a way of becoming extraordinary products, services, and customer experiences very quickly. Bring passion and dedication to your job, and there's no telling what we can accomplish together.
Our Platform Architecture group is responsible for connecting our hardware and software into one unified system, and we design technologies to work seamlessly in unison. Join this team, and you’ll develop forward-looking prototype systems in collaboration with engineers across Apple. We take daring, revolutionary ideas and turn them into reality. You and your team will apply engineering fundamentals and start from scratch if need be. Together, our work will lead to the intuitive technology experiences that Apple is known for worldwide.
Description
The Platform Architecture systems prototyping team creates "livable prototypes"-complete product concepts that you can actually use, as opposed to concept demonstrations. We are a small team of self-motivated, curious generalists who love to make thoughtful, interesting new things.
In your role on the prototyping team, you will participate in concept's overall system design, from the top-level diagrams to participation in schematic reviews. Working with our software engineering partners across Apple, you will help prepare the OS, bootstrap and device drivers for the project. Once hardware has been fabricated, you'll work with your EE and ME peers on bringup and debugging.
Preferred Qualifications
10+ years industry experience
MS or PhD in CS, CE, EECS, or similar engineering degree
Ability to work with EE's for hardware bringup and debug of prototypes
Ability to read and understand block diagrams, schematics, and data sheets
Familiarity with microcontrollers, both hardware and firmware
Familiarity with ARM architecture, Cortex-A and Cortex-M profiles
Minimum Qualifications
BS in CS, CE, EECS, or similar engineering degree
Experience in design of computer systems
Experience in C/C++
Understanding of common hardware interfaces such as PCI, UART, I2C, SPI, or USB
Exposure to low-level system software such as operating systems, bootloaders and device drivers
Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $184,700 and $324,800, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

You'll also receive benefits including: Comprehensive medical and dental coverage, retirement benefits, a range of discounted products and free services, and for formal education related to advancing your career at Apple, reimbursement for certain educational expenses - including tuition.
