Job description

API Automation Engineer

We are seeking a skilled API Automation Engineer with strong experience in designing, developing, and executing automated test solutions for RESTful APIs and microservices. The ideal candidate will have expertise in API testing frameworks, automation tools, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile development methodologies. This role requires close collaboration with developers, QA teams, product owners, and DevOps engineers to ensure the quality, reliability, and performance of applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, maintain, and execute automated API test scripts and frameworks.
  • Validate RESTful and SOAP web services using tools such as Postman, REST Assured, Karate, or SoapUI.
  • Develop and maintain test automation frameworks using Java, Python, or similar programming languages.
  • Create, execute, and maintain functional, integration, regression, and end-to-end API test suites.
  • Analyze API specifications, business requirements, and technical documentation to develop effective test strategies.
  • Perform API validation, request/response verification, schema validation, and data integrity testing.
  • Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, or similar tools.
  • Collaborate with developers to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve defects throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Create and maintain test data, test environments, and automation documentation.
  • Execute database validations using SQL queries to verify backend data integrity.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily standups, backlog grooming, and retrospectives.
  • Monitor test execution results, generate reports, and communicate quality metrics to stakeholders.
  • Support performance, security, and integration testing efforts when required.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and testing best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in API Testing and Test Automation.
  • Strong experience with REST API testing and automation.
  • Hands-on experience with Postman, REST Assured, Karate Framework, SoapUI, or ReadyAPI.
  • Proficiency in Java, Python, or other object-oriented programming languages.
  • Experience with TestNG, JUnit, or similar testing frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of HTTP, JSON, XML, REST, SOAP, and API authentication mechanisms (OAuth, JWT, Basic Auth).
  • Experience with SQL and database validation testing.
  • Knowledge of Git, version control systems, and CI/CD tools.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
  • Excellent debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
