Job description

Job SummaryThe Engineer III focused on Computational Analysis is responsible for performing advanced structural design and analysis work for various steel and concrete structures.  The work includes the proficient application of finite element analysis tools for plate structures subjected to various structural, dynamic and thermal loading. The role will focus on individual analysis and design tasks as part of a collaborative team for large and complex projects. May act as a discipline lead for projects, managing internal and external resources as assigned. Essential Functions
  • Actively supports the Company’s commitment to safety and its “Core Values.”
  • Represents the Company at all times with high moral standards while adhering to the Company’s “Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.”
  • Develops computer models from design drawings.
  • Develops broad knowledge and skills in computational analysis.
  • Applies engineering first principles of statics, mechanics of materials, and dynamics to find engineering solutions for various types of steel and concrete structures.
  • Supports design engineering efforts for various atmospheric, refrigerated and cryogenic storage structures to API and ASME codes/standards.
  • Evaluates, selects and applies standard techniques, procedures and criteria to perform a task or sequence of tasks for conventional projects with few complex features.
  • Collaboratively uses judgment to determine adaptations in methods for non-routine aspects of assignments.
  • Assists in developing analysis reports, when required, which effectively communicate the analysis methods and results to internal and external clients.
  • Works on small projects or on portions of large projects.
  • Performs design calculations and analysis using appropriate systems and tools.
  • Checks work for constructability, interferences, operational safety, and overall quality assurance.
  • Coordinates tasks and work with entry level engineers, designers, or administrative staff.
  • Assists in preparing and managing scope, budget and schedule for projects or assignments to include any discipline internal or external resources assigned to support their projects are within scope, budget and schedule.
  • Maintains a sense of urgency and a positive attitude.
  • Prepares portions of project documents.
  • Edits specifications.
  • Performs research and investigations.
  • Receives instruction on specific objectives.
  • Receives direction on unconventional and/or complex problems, and possible solutions.
  • Receives a thorough review of completed work for application of sound professional judgment.
  • Assists with project manager, project Engineer, client, customer contacts, vendor and communication pertaining to specific assignments or meetings.
  • Performs other related duties, as directed.
       Qualifications
      • BS in Engineering required; MS degree preferred.  Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
      • 5+ years related engineering experience.
      • Advanced knowledge of strength of materials, stress analysis and structural engineering is required.
      • Design experience in API-620, API-650, API-653, and ASME Section VIII is strongly preferred.
      • Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) of steel shell structure is required.  Experience with thermal and dynamic loading and concrete structure is preferred.
      • Experience with ANSYS APDL/Workbench or similar FEA software applications using a general-purpose programing modeling approach is required.
      • Working knowledge of MathCAD, AutoCAD, STAAD, and COMPRESS is preferred.
      • Working knowledge of numerical methods of structural analysis and stress analysis is required.    
      • Experience with analysis verification and self-checking using closed form solutions “hand calculations”, is required.
      • Cooperates with other team members; interacts with individuals at all organizational levels in professional manner.
      • Exhibits excellent listening, oral and written skills.
      • Demonstrates strong organizational skills and ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously under time sensitive deadlines.
      • Strong PC skills including MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
      • Occasional overtime and travel may be required.
