Job description

Psychiatrist - AOT Evaluator Part-Time/Locum Tenens Job in theHudson Valley/Capital Region, New York

A county Department of Mental Health in New York's Hudson Valley region is seeking a board-certified psychiatrist to serve as an independent evaluator for its Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT) program. This is a long-term, supplemental role ideal for a provider already working in the region who wants consistent, flexible additional income without taking on a full caseload.

What the Role Involves:
You would conduct AOT evaluations averaging 45 to 60 minutes each, assessing whether individuals meet statutory criteria for court-ordered outpatient treatment. When new petitions or renewals require it, you would provide in-person courtroom testimony. The program currently carries approximately 9 active AOTs and anticipates 12 or more evaluation events annually. Court appearances are typically scheduled with one to two days advance notice and require in-person attendance.
Additional Opportunity:
The department is also exploring a small virtual patient caseload and 730 Competency Examiner work that could bring the right candidate to roughly 7 hours of consistent weekly work across all components.
Who This Is Right For:
A board-certified psychiatrist based in or near the Albany area or Hudson Valley who is comfortable with forensic and statutory evaluation work. Prior experience in a state hospital or OMH setting is strongly preferred, as familiarity with AOT statutes is essential to stepping in confidently. Availability for same-week court appearances is a must.

The Jackson and Coker Advantage:
Join a team that prioritizes your peace of mind so you can focus on patient care.
Elite Coverage: Top-rated malpractice insurance.
Seamless Logistics: Full-service in-house travel agency and credentialing coordinators.
Constant Support: 24/7 recruiter availability to handle any issues in real-time.
Experience the standard of excellence recognized by Forbes and Staffing Industry Analysts.
