Job description

Oswego Harbor Power Generating Station is a 2-Unit, 1800-MW rated fuel oil/natural gas fired power plant.The Auxiliary Operator 1 (AO1) is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all Plant equipment under their control in accordance with written plant procedures and under the direction of the Control room operator or station management. In the absence of specific orders and/or directives, the Operator exercises initiative, using experience and good judgment in Plant operation. Comply with company policies including those concerning safety and environmental.

In the absence of specific orders and/or directives, the Operator exercises initiative, using experience and good judgment in Plant operation. Comply with company policies including those concerning safety and environmental.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the general supervision of the Control room operator and station management:

  • Oversee the safe, efficient, reliable, and environmentally sound operation of plant equipment.
  • Understand and execute the equipment clearance and tagging procedure.
  • Properly operate boiler, steam turbine,plant auxiliary equipment and systems during normal and emergency operation
  • Communicate information clearly, both orally and written
  • Assist others in performance testing.
  • Troubleshoot plant equipment to resolve operational problems.
  • Generate and review Work Requests for execution of equipment repair.
  • Operate various computer systems to receive, analyze, comprehend, and input data.
  • Monitor and record data available using various instruments, recording charts, annunciator systems and other monitoring devices onto shift logs as directed by plant operational procedures.
  • Implement Plant Emergency Procedures as needed.
  • Observe variations in operating conditions and interpret meter and gauge readings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Communicate conditions of plant system and equipment to others
  • Apply knowledge of steam power plant operations and basic power plant principles to daily decision-making and work tasks
  • Operate computers and printers.
  • Discern and respond to verbal and auditory signals from control panel.
  • Work without supervision inspection while carrying out duties.
  • Take, record, and analyze readings of various electrical and mechanical meters.
