What is an antitrust?

An Antitrust job involves analyzing and enforcing laws that promote fair competition and prevent monopolistic practices. Professionals in this field work for government agencies, law firms, or corporations to investigate mergers, anti-competitive behavior, and compliance with antitrust regulations. They may conduct legal research, review business practices, and advise clients on regulatory risks. Antitrust specialists help ensure a competitive market by preventing price-fixing, market allocation, and other unfair trade practices.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of an antitrust attorney or specialist?

Antitrust professionals spend their days analyzing mergers and acquisitions, assessing business practices for potential competition concerns, and preparing briefs, reports, or presentations for clients and regulatory bodies. Much of the work involves conducting legal or economic research, collaborating with economists, business professionals, and regulators, and sometimes representing clients during negotiations or proceedings. Tasks may also include monitoring regulatory developments and advising organizations on antitrust compliance. The role often requires juggling multiple cases or projects simultaneously, making time management and teamwork especially important. These responsibilities ensure that organizations operate within legal parameters while promoting fair and open market competition.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the antitrust position, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Antitrust attorney or specialist, you need a deep understanding of antitrust laws, economic principles, and legal research, typically backed by a law degree (JD) and relevant bar admission or advanced economics qualifications. Familiarity with legal research databases (e.g., LexisNexis, Westlaw), regulatory compliance tools, and sometimes economic modeling software is essential. Strong analytical thinking, persuasive communication, and the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams set outstanding professionals apart. These skills and qualities are crucial to effectively analyze complex market behaviors, advise clients or employers, and advocate in high-stakes regulatory settings.

Job description

Intuit Enterprise Suite (IES) is our all-in-one offering for larger, more complex mid-market businesses and one of the fastest-growing parts of Intuit. IES is scaling its channel, alliance, and partner-led motion for the mid-market business. We are hiring an Assistant General Counsel to help build and expand the legal framework for that motion and to negotiate the agreements that run on it: channel and reseller programs, and strategic alliances with large accounting firms. You will help design scalable program terms, lead complex partner negotiations independently, and advise senior sales and business leaders on channel-conflict and competition risk.

Responsibilities

  • Independently structure, draft, and negotiate complex partner and alliance agreements, including reseller, distribution, referral, strategic alliance, and go-to-market agreements, often on a bespoke or first-of-a-kind basis.
  • Advise sales leaders on channel structure, channel-conflict, and antitrust and competition considerations, with succinct, commercially driven guidance.
  • Guide and provide input on the legal framework for partner programs: master agreements, program guides, participation and incentive terms, and co-sell and co-market structures that are clear, scalable, and enforceable.
  • Create and maintain playbooks, templates, and self-service workflows so routine partner and channel work routes away from individual lawyer attention.
  • Partner on the legal design of new channel programs alongside programs strategy, sales, and marketing leaders, and stand up scaled processes that support rapid deal closure.
  • Partner cross-functionally with product, finance, privacy, and security to align guidance, and escalate the few issues that warrant senior legal sign-off.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school (or equivalent) and membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.
  • 10+ years of commercial transactions experience, combining in-house and law-firm work, with meaningful in-house time at a SaaS or technology company.
  • Demonstrated experience setting up and scaling the legal framework for channels, alliances, and partner programs, not only operating an existing one.
  • Deep experience negotiating reseller, distribution, referral, strategic alliance, and co-sell and co-market agreements, with familiarity with SaaS channel economics (price structures, order management, and roles and responsibilities across the channel).
  • Working knowledge of antitrust, competition, and channel-conflict issues as they apply to partner and reseller programs.
  • Track record building reusable playbooks and scaled processes that grow legal support without adding headcount.
  • Strong business judgment, the ability to balance legal risk against opportunity, and clear, direct communication with non-lawyer executives.
