Job description

Reporting directly to the Vice President, Intellectual Property and Brand Protection, the Legal Counsel, Brand Protection will support the Intellectual Property team and develop and implement brand enforcement activities in the Americas. Counsel will be expected to think strategically, work independently and collaborate effectively with business clients and the rest of the legal team.

Location: This role is based in-person at our Corporate Headquarters in New York, NY.

 Brand Protection and Enforcement

  • Develop and execute brand protection strategies as part of Tiffany's legal team, with primary responsibility for the Americas.

  • Conduct and lead investigations of counterfeit and infringing activities to support civil and criminal actions

  • Run and implement online surveillance and takedown programs using online tools covering websites, marketplaces, social media, phishing sites, and sponsored ads

  • Assess market leaders to partner with top technology service providers and implement effective tools

  • Manage strategic relationships with customs authorities, law enforcement, and online marketplaces

  • Develop and provide anti-counterfeiting training to retail teams and other internal collaborators, as well as external agencies and authorities

Intellectual Property Advice

  • Serve as legal advisor to the brand protection team
  • Send cease-and-desist letters and pursue other enforcement activities
  • Manage outside counsel in the Americas handling C&D letters and civil and criminal litigation
  • Support the Managing Counsel, Intellectual Property, in a variety of IP-related matters, including basic IP prosecution work such as IP assets clearance and renewals. 

Team Responsibilities

  • Supervise matter management and tracking
  • Identify trends and develop team performance objectives through data analysis
  • Prepare reports on enforcement activities
  • Participate in conferences and educational events with trade associations, advocacy groups and similar organizations

The hiring range for this position ranges from $148,325 - $190,000. The rate of pay offered will be dependent upon candidates' relevant skills and experience. Management is also eligible for bonus.

Required Qualifications:

  • JD from accredited law school, admitted in New York or New Jersey
  • 6-8 years of professional experience with a law firm, in-house legal department or brand protection team; a mix of law firm and in-house legal experience preferred
  • Experience with handling brand protection matters in a retail environment strongly preferred
  • Outstanding writing, drafting and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to use good judgment and demonstrate attention to detail
  • Ability to balance a large volume of work through effective time management and prioritization
  • Ability to work with a global team
