These roles may include internships or assistant positions that focus on developing foundational skills and gaining industry experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Animator Summer position, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Animator Summer, you should possess strong drawing skills, a solid understanding of animation principles, and ideally be pursuing or have completed a degree in animation or a related field. Experience using industry-standard animation software such as Adobe Animate, Toon Boom Harmony, or Blender is highly advantageous. Teamwork, creativity, adaptability, and effective communication are standout soft skills for this role. These qualities are crucial for producing engaging work on tight summer deadlines and collaborating efficiently with peers and supervisors.

How to get a job in animation with no experience?

To get an animation summer job with no experience, build a portfolio of personal projects or school work to showcase your skills, learn industry-standard tools like Adobe Animate or Toon Boom, and consider taking online courses or tutorials to improve your techniques. Internships or entry-level positions often value enthusiasm and a willingness to learn alongside basic skills.

Are animators in demand right now?

Animator summer roles are generally in demand during peak seasons such as summer and holiday periods, especially in entertainment, advertising, and gaming industries. The demand for skilled animators with proficiency in tools like Adobe Animate or Maya remains steady, with opportunities increasing as digital media consumption grows. However, competition can be high, and building a strong portfolio is important for securing these positions.

Does Disney still hire 2D animators?

Disney continues to hire 2D animators for certain projects, especially in legacy animation departments and for specialized roles. However, the company has shifted focus toward 3D animation and digital techniques, so opportunities for traditional 2D animation are more limited than in the past. Skills in both traditional and digital animation tools remain valuable for applicants.
