Animation Production Intern information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Animation Production Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Animation Production Intern, you generally need a foundational understanding of animation principles, project organization, and a relevant educational background such as coursework in animation or film. Familiarity with production tracking software (like ShotGrid or Trello), basic editing tools, and proficiency in Microsoft Office are typically required. Strong communication, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask set standout interns apart in fast-paced studio environments. These skills ensure smooth workflow, effective collaboration, and timely project delivery within an animation production pipeline.

What types of projects and tasks can I expect to work on as an Animation Production Intern?

As an Animation Production Intern, you’ll typically assist with project coordination, tracking schedules, and supporting communication between creative teams, such as animators, storyboard artists, and producers. You may be tasked with updating production schedules, organizing assets, preparing meeting notes, and helping with the distribution of materials. This hands-on exposure provides insight into the full animation pipeline and helps build organizational and teamwork skills in a fast-paced, creative environment. You’ll often collaborate closely with both the production management team and creative staff, learning how complex animation projects come together.

What does an Animation Production Intern do?

An Animation Production Intern supports the animation team by assisting with various tasks throughout the production pipeline. This may include organizing files, helping with scheduling, preparing materials for meetings, and communicating between different departments. Interns often get hands-on experience with production software and workflows, while learning the basics of animation processes from pre-production through post-production. The role provides valuable insight into the animation industry and helps build foundational skills for a career in animation production.
