Galveston County Health District is seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate Rescue/Foster Coordinator to join our Animal Resource Center team! What You'll Do:
Maintain rescue and foster databases along with all communication and correspondence
Manage the Animal Resource Center's (ARC) Facebook page, including posting adoptable animals, responding to messages, and promoting events
Design and implement strategies to recruit and retain rescues and fosters
Provide information and counseling to rescue partners and fosters about specific animals
Properly implant microchips in both ARC and citizen-owned animals
Network animals and develop plans that promote live release, awareness, and public education
Assist in planning and attending off-site events to promote the ARC and adoptable animals
Cross-train with administrative staff and perform other duties as assigned
Train and supervise fosters to ensure animal well-being and successful placements
Serve as a liaison with animal rescue groups and community partners
Greet and assist customers in the adoption lobby
Match rescues, fosters, and adopters with suitable animals based on lifestyle and needs
Monitor foster assignments including medical cases
Maintain high-quality customer service and responsiveness on the ARC Facebook page
Represent the division at public meetings or events as needed
Respond to public health emergencies, evenings or weekends as required
Work collaboratively to support the mission, vision, and values of the organization
What We're Looking For:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Experience in animal training or advanced handling in a shelter environment preferred
1+ year of experience in veterinary medicine
Knowledge of domestic animal breeds, animal behavior, safe handling, proper housing, and common health issues (e.g., neonatal kittens)
Familiarity with social media platforms, especially Facebook and Twitter
Valid Texas Driver's License, plus satisfactory DMV/MVR history
Outstanding customer service, writing, and public speaking skills
Proficiency in MS Office and ability to create documents
Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed
Compliance with GCHD immunization and ICS training policies
Must pass criminal background check and drug/alcohol screening
Equivalent education and experience may be considered
