ROLE SUMMARY:
The Sr. Engineer, Platform Services is a senior-level individual contributor responsible for building, automating, and evolving the shared engineering platforms that enable secure, scalable, and reliable application delivery across Anheuser-Busch. This role partners closely with Software Engineering, Cloud Infrastructure, Security, Enterprise Architecture, Operations, and Product teams to develop reusable platform capabilities that improve developer experience, operational excellence, and enterprise platform maturity.

This engineer will help design and support Azure-first cloud platforms, containerized runtimes, infrastructure-as-code solutions, CI/CD automation, and developer self-service tooling. The role focuses heavily on platform reliability, automation-first engineering, observability, governance, and reusable infrastructure standards that allow application teams to deliver software efficiently and securely at scale.

The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise across cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes/container platforms, Terraform, GitHub ecosystem practices, automation tooling, and platform engineering principles. They will influence technical direction, contribute to enterprise platform standards, mentor engineering teams on best practices, and help drive scalable solutions that strengthen reliability, resiliency, security, and operational sustainability across shared services environments.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Platform Architecture & Engineering

  • Design, build, and support shared platform services for enterprise application teams.
  • Develop reusable platform patterns across Azure services, Kubernetes/container platforms, networking, identity, secrets management, and governance.
  • Contribute to platform standards, reference architectures, and engineering best practices.
  • Enable development teams through secure, scalable, and cost-effective platform solutions.

Service Reliability & Operations

  • Own the reliability, operability, and documentation of platform services.
  • Improve observability through monitoring, dashboards, alerts, telemetry, and operational runbooks.
  • Participate in incident response, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and platform reliability improvements.
  • Reduce recurring operational work through automation, self-service tooling, and standardized solutions.

Automation & Developer Enablement

  • Build automation-first solutions that improve delivery speed, consistency, and operational efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain:
  • Terraform infrastructure modules and provisioning patterns
  • GitHub Actions workflows and deployment templates
  • Repository standards, onboarding tooling, and developer self-service capabilities
  • Leverage approved AI-assisted engineering tools, including GitHub Copilot and OpenAI Codex, to improve engineering quality, automation, and documentation.

Scalability, Performance & Governance

  • Identify and address reliability, scalability, performance, and operational risks across shared services.
  • Improve platform resilience through automation, standardization, and service health visibility.
  • Support cloud cost optimization through efficient architecture, lifecycle management, tagging, and right-sizing practices.

Technical Leadership

  • Lead technical design discussions and mentor engineers on platform engineering best practices.
  • Influence platform architecture, CI/CD standards, source control practices, automation, and engineering quality across teams.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Software Engineering, Infrastructure, Security, Enterprise Architecture, and Operations teams.
  • Drive platform maturity through reusable standards, documentation, templates, and implementation guidance.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Core Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in platform engineering, cloud infrastructure, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), systems engineering, or related technical roles.
  • Experience designing, building, and operating cloud platforms within Azure or comparable enterprise cloud environments.
  • Strong scripting and automation experience using PowerShell, Bash, Python, or similar languages.
  • Strong systems thinking with the ability to balance reliability, scalability, security, governance, cost, and developer experience.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively across engineering, architecture, security, operations, and business stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ownership, accountability, and collaboration within complex enterprise environments.
  • Ability to influence technical direction, platform standards, and engineering best practices without formal authority.

Cloud & Platform Technologies

  • Experience with Kubernetes, containerized platforms, managed runtimes, or enterprise hosting environments.
  • Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code tools, preferably Terraform.
  • Working knowledge of Azure services such as:
    • AKS
    • Azure Container Registry
    • Azure Key Vault
    • Azure Monitor
    • Azure Policy
    • Azure networking and managed identities
  • Understanding of platform security principles, including identity, access management, secrets management, and policy-driven governance.

Observability & Automation

  • Experience with monitoring, logging, tracing, alerting, dashboards, and incident analysis.
  • Experience building CI/CD automation using GitHub Actions or similar pipeline technologies.
  • Experience supporting enterprise source control platforms, including repository governance, branching strategies, and workflow standards.
  • Ability to create clear technical documentation, standards, and operational runbooks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Datadog, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, or Application Insights.
  • Experience building reusable Terraform modules, platform templates, internal developer platforms, or GitHub Enterprise standards.
  • Familiarity with GitOps, Helm, Kustomize, container security, service mesh concepts, FinOps, or cloud governance models.
