How much do angiography tech jobs pay per hour?

As of Aug 19, 2026, the average hourly pay for angiography tech in the United States is $22.56, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $18.03 and $24.28 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is an angiography tech?

Angiography Techs, also known as angiography technologists or angiographic technologists, are healthcare professionals who assist doctors in performing diagnostic imaging procedures that visualize blood vessels. They operate specialized equipment to capture images of arteries, veins, and the heart, often during procedures such as angiograms or cardiac catheterizations. Their responsibilities include preparing patients, maintaining sterile environments, monitoring equipment, and ensuring images are clear for accurate diagnosis. Angiography Techs play a crucial role in diagnosing and treating vascular conditions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an angiography tech?

To thrive as an Angiography Tech, you need expertise in radiologic technology, a thorough understanding of vascular anatomy, and completion of an accredited radiologic technologist program with appropriate ARRT certification. Familiarity with angiography imaging equipment, PACS systems, and sterile technique is essential. Attention to detail, strong communication, and the ability to stay calm under pressure help ensure patient safety and effective teamwork. These skills are crucial for producing high-quality diagnostic images, supporting physicians during procedures, and maintaining optimal outcomes in a fast-paced environment.

What are some common challenges faced by angiography techs during procedures, and how are they typically addressed?

Angiography Techs often encounter challenges such as maintaining strict sterile technique in fast-paced, high-stress environments and responding quickly to unexpected changes in a patient's condition. They must be adept at operating complex imaging equipment while effectively communicating with radiologists, nurses, and other team members. To address these challenges, Angiography Techs rely on thorough preparation, continuous training, and strong teamwork, ensuring patient safety and high-quality imaging results.

What is the difference between Angiography Tech vs Vascular Technologist?

AspectAngiography TechVascular Technologist
CertificationsARRT certification, specialized in angiographic proceduresRegistered Vascular Technologist (RVT), vascular ultrasound certification
Work EnvironmentHospitals, imaging centers performing invasive proceduresOutpatient clinics, hospitals focusing on vascular ultrasound
Job DutiesAssist with angiograms, operate imaging equipment, prepare patientsPerform vascular ultrasounds, assess blood flow, assist in diagnosis

While both roles involve vascular imaging, Angiography Techs focus on invasive procedures like angiograms, whereas Vascular Technologists primarily perform non-invasive ultrasounds. Both require specialized certifications and work in healthcare settings, but their specific duties and procedures differ.

How to become an angiography tech?

To become an angiography tech, you typically need to complete a radiologic technology program and obtain certification such as the Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) credential. Additional specialized training in angiography procedures and vascular imaging is often required, along with state licensure where applicable. Strong knowledge of imaging equipment and patient care skills are essential for this role.
