They ensure that all necessary supplies and machines are ready and functioning properly, and may help monitor patients under anesthesia. Their responsibilities can also include sterilizing instruments, troubleshooting equipment issues, and maintaining accurate records. What does an anesthesia technician do?

The job duties and responsibilities of an anesthesia technician focus on operating anesthesia equipment during a medical procedure. In this career, you may work on patient preparation and placement of anesthesia equipment before the procedure. You help insert an I.V. line and speak to the patient as they go under the anesthesia. During the surgery, you assist the anesthetist and other members of the care team by monitoring the supply of anesthesia and patient vital signs. Collaborating closely with anesthesiologists and surgical teams, anesthesia technicians need to communicate clearly and remain calm during emergency situations. Adapting to rapidly changing schedules and procedures is also a common part of the role.
