What is an Android Manager?

An Android Manager is a professional responsible for overseeing the development, maintenance, and performance of Android applications within an organization. They lead a team of Android developers, coordinate project timelines, and ensure that apps meet quality and security standards. Additionally, Android Managers collaborate with other departments, manage resources, and keep up with the latest industry trends to deliver successful mobile products.

In the digital job market, roles such as Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Solutions Architect, and Data Scientist tend to have the highest salaries. What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Android Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Android Manager, you need expertise in mobile application development, team leadership, and a strong grasp of the Android platform, often supported by a degree in computer science or related field. Familiarity with tools such as Android Studio, Git, Jira, and experience with Kotlin or Java are typically required, along with certifications like Google Associate Android Developer being advantageous. Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and project management skills distinguish effective leaders in this role. • Define and analyze metrics that inform the success of products
  • Understand OpenTable's strategic and competitive position and deliver products that are recognized best in the industry
  • Maximize efficiency in a constantly evolving environment where the process is fluid and creative solutions are the norm
  • Coordinate with teams around the world from a variety of disciplines. Includes some travel, mostly within California but potentially international

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years experience as a consumer PM with strong design sense and familiarity with design best practices for apps and web
  • A record of success in bringing new products to market of a similar complexity (entire product flows that spans across multiple pages/ screens) and scale (at least a million users per week) across all platforms (web, iOS and Android)
  • Great analytical sense and experience with defining and running AB-tests in a consumer product
  • Data-centricity - a deep curiosity of metrics, the ability to identify the right metrics and track and report back on impact
  • Technical background - you should be able to comfortably discuss development tradeoffs and directions with our engineering team
  • User empathy and experience with running in-person user tests
  • Creativity - you will have lots of fresh ideas and be hungry to test them and see the results
  • A strong communicator and good listener - able to present ideas coherently and exceptional at building consensus among a diverse group (sometimes remotely)
  • A team player who can collaborate with engineers, designers, and other cross-functional teams
  • A global mindset and some expert knowledge on how digital products need to vary across markets while understanding the need for us to remain a scalable business
  • A strong vision of the way the world should be, and the ability to apply the scientific method to see if you're right
  • Passion for producing digital experiences people love, food and dining out and deep knowledge of OpenTable's business and products. Any restaurant or hospitality experience is a plus, whether it was managing a fine dining restaurant or working as a hostess in college.
