The State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz invites applications for a Lecturer/Program Coordinator position in the department of Educational Studies and Leadership.
Program Overview
The Certificate of Advanced Study in School Leadership (CAS401A) prepares experienced educators for advanced leadership roles in New York State public schools, including School Building Leader (SBL) and School District Leader (SDL) certification. The program operates in close partnership with school districts, third-party organizations, and state agencies to ensure alignment with evolving leadership standards, certification requirements, and district needs.
The Program Coordinator provides academic, administrative, personnel, assessment, and partnership leadership for a complex, multi-modal graduate program serving experienced educators and administrators.
Position Summary
The Lecturer is responsible for the strategic leadership, academic integrity, accreditation compliance, field-based internships, faculty coordination, and continuous improvement as the program coordinator of the CAS School Leadership program. This role requires deep expertise in educational leadership, New York State certification requirements, accreditation processes, and collaborative partnerships with school districts and external agencies.
The Coordinator supervises full-time and adjunct faculty, oversees internships and advisement, leads assessment and accreditation reporting, and serves as the primary liaison between the university, school districts, and third-party partners.
Key Responsibilities
Administrative Leadership
- Lead the development, revision, and ongoing improvement of the CAS401A program
- Monitor and respond to changes in NYSED certification requirements, leadership standards, and state reforms
- Develop and implement program and departmental policies (e.g., admissions, course sequencing, internship requirements)
- Assign full-time faculty, lecturers, adjuncts, and intern supervisors to courses
- Coordinate course scheduling with internal and third-party partners to avoid conflicts
- Communicate certification and program updates to students, faculty, and partners
- Participate in accreditation and institutional review processes
- Serve on departmental, college, and university committees, including CEEDAR and AQUIP
Academic Oversight
- Lead the development, revision, and evaluation of program assessments and candidate portfolios
- Oversee internship handbooks, applications, and alignment with district needs and state standards
- Support adjunct faculty in developing syllabi aligned with leadership competencies and certification standards
- Coordinate training for adjuncts in learning management and assessment systems
Personnel Management
- Recruit, interview, hire, train, and evaluate adjunct faculty, intern supervisors, and site-based mentors
- Provide ongoing support and supervision to advisors, adjuncts, and supervisors
- Ensure instructional and supervisory quality across all program components
Recruitment & Marketing
- Represent the program at recruitment and informational events
- Seek and coordinate third-party funding support for recruitment initiatives
- Review and update program marketing and publicity materials
- Maintain strong relationships with alumni, district leaders, and school personnel
Advising & Student Support
- Advise prospective students throughout the application process
- Provide academic and professional advising to all CAS401A and SDBL candidates
- Coordinate admissions decisions with the Graduate School and Admissions Office
- Conduct orientations for newly admitted students
- Disseminate program updates, deadlines, graduation, and job opportunities
Assessment & Accreditation
- Lead the preparation of state and national accreditation reports
- Collect, analyze, and report student performance data (GPA, rubrics, assessments)
- Prepare annual program assessment and data reports
Fieldwork, Practicum & Internship Coordination
- Assign and supervise college internship supervisors
- Approve and communicate with site-based mentors
- Monitor internship progress and address placement or performance concerns
- Serve as liaison to districts across NYC, Long Island, and other regions
- Support candidates in meeting SBL and SDL internship certification requirements
- Maintain professional correspondence with cooperating schools and supervisors
Partnerships
- Maintain and strengthen partnerships with school districts and third-party organizations
- Coordinate collaboration with the University at Buffalo doctoral program in Educational Leadership
Work Environment
- Collaborative academic and professional setting
- Regular interaction with school districts, state agencies, and external partners
- Evening and occasional weekend commitments for classes, meetings, and recruitment events
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Education
- Doctorate (EdD or PhD) in Educational Leadership, Educational Administration, Curriculum & Instruction, or a closely related field
(Candidates with ABD status may be considered with a clear plan for completion)
Certification
- New York State School District Leader (SDL) and/or School Building Leader (SBL) certification required
- Demonstrated expertise in NYSED certification regulations and leadership standards
Professional Experience
- Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive leadership experience in K-12 education, higher education, or a combination of both
- Demonstrated experience in school or district-level leadership (e.g., principal, assistant superintendent, superintendent, director-level roles)
- Minimum of 3-5 years of higher education experience, including graduate teaching, program coordination, or administration
- Experience supervising faculty, adjuncts, interns, or field-based supervisors
- Experience working with accreditation processes (NYSED, CAEP, or equivalent)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience coordinating post-master's certification programs
- Record of scholarship or professional presentations in educational leadership
- Experience managing field-based internships across multiple districts and geographic regions
- Experience collaborating with third-party educational partners and professional development providers
- Demonstrated success in data-driven program assessment and continuous improvement
- Familiarity with Brightspace, VIA, TeachLive, or comparable learning and assessment platforms
