As of Jul 21, 2026, the average hourly pay for analog layout in the United States is $21.83, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $15.62 and $22.12 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is an Analog Layout job?

An Analog Layout job involves designing the physical layout of analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits (ICs). Engineers in this role translate circuit schematics into silicon by placing and routing components while considering performance, manufacturability, and reliability. They ensure proper matching, signal integrity, and minimize issues like parasitics and noise. Tools like Cadence Virtuoso or Synopsys Custom Compiler are commonly used in this process.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Analog Layout position, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Analog Layout engineer, you need a strong background in electrical engineering principles, semiconductor device physics, and hands-on experience with analog integrated circuit design. Proficiency with CAD tools such as Cadence Virtuoso, as well as familiarity with industry standards and design rule checks (DRC), is crucial. Attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and effective communication are important soft skills in this position. These qualifications ensure the accuracy and functionality of complex analog circuits, contributing to successful chip design projects.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of an Analog Layout engineer?

An Analog Layout engineer typically spends their day creating and optimizing the physical layout of analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits using specialized EDA tools. Responsibilities often include ensuring layouts meet electrical performance, area, and manufacturability requirements by closely collaborating with circuit designers and verification teams. The role also involves running design rule checks (DRC) and layout versus schematic (LVS) verification, troubleshooting any layout issues, and revising designs as needed. Regular communication with team members is essential to maintain project timelines and align on design specifications.

About the job you are considering

We are seeking an experienced Analog / RF Layout Designer to provide onsite support for advanced semiconductor nodes while partnering with a highly collaborative, global design and layout organization. In this role, you will contribute to cutting-edge analog and mixed-signal IP development, working across complex technologies such as FinFET and deep sub-micron processes. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on layout expert who thrives in technically challenging environments and enjoys end-to-end ownership from block-level design through top-level integration.

Your role
  • Independently develop blocklevel and IPlevel analog/RF layouts, partnering closely with circuit designers and global layout teams to drive designs from concept to tapeout.
  • Own floorplanning, placement, routing, and optimization for complex analog and mixedsignal blocks, including SerDes, ADC/DACs, PLLs, and related IPs.
  • Lead and support toplevel integration of multiple analog and mixedsignal blocks within larger SoCs.
  • Apply deep expertise in advanced deep submicron and FinFET process technologies, incorporating fabrication, EM, ESD, latchup, and reliability considerations into layouts.
  • Resolve complex DRC, LVS, antenna, and verification issues, exercising strong technical judgment while collaborating across geographies and mentoring or guiding team members as a technical lead.
Your skills and experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related field.

  • 6+ years of hands-on experience in analog and/or RF layout design (8+ years preferred).

  • Proven experience with analog floor planning and layout for complex modules such as SerDes, ADC/DAC, PLLs, and similar high-speed or precision circuits.

  • Strong understanding of analog layout best practices for deep sub-micron CMOS and FinFET technologies.
