Welder 1st Class
This position is located at our Pensacola, FL location.
Birdon America, Inc. is seeking a Welder Class 1 to join our growing team at Birdon's new Port of Pensacola location. This is an excellent opportunity to apply your knowledge and skills with a growing company as we build a new Advanced Maritime Manufacturing Center (AMMC).
Selected candidates will train and work in Bayou La Batre, Alabama, for approximately 30 days before transferring to the Pensacola location. Travel reimbursement will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform FCAW, GMAW, and/or GTAW welding on carbon steel and aluminum components in accordance with project specifications, drawings, and quality standards.
• Interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and work instructions to complete assigned fabrication and welding tasks accurately.
• Set up, adjust, and safely operate welding machines, grinders, cutting tools, and related fabrication equipment.
• Inspect completed welds, identify defects, and make necessary repairs to ensure compliance with quality and certification requirements.
• Work safely in shop, vessel, and confined-space environments while following company safety procedures and using required personal protective equipment.
• Collaborate with Foreman, fitters, inspectors, and team members to meet production schedules and maintain a high standard of workmanship.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and properly care for tools, equipment, and materials.
Requirements/Qualifications
-Transportation Workers Identification Credentials (TWIC)
• 3 to 5 years of experience in FCAW (flux core) on carbon steel, and/or GMAW (MIG) on aluminum and/or GTAW (TIG) on aluminum.
• Must be able to pass a NAVSEA Tech qual #248 Certification pre-employment weld test, 2G and 3G.
• Must be able to weld in the following positions, 1G (flat), 2G (horizontal), 3G (vertical), and, 4G (overhead) within 90 days of employment.
• Must be able to set up own equipment.
• Must be able to read blueprints.
• Possess strong attention to detail to adhere to required quality assurance program.
• Excellent math skills with the ability to read a tape measure accurately.
• Ability to operate power equipment safely and comply with all safety standards.
• Demonstrates strong work ethic, good communication skills, and work well with others.
• Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
• Must be able to stand, bend, stoop, squat or kneel regularly, as well as climb stairs and ladders and enter confined spaces to complete tasks.
