About the Role:
Housing Advocacy Vocational and Employment is looking for a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional with Amharic language skills to join our team in Silver Spring, MD. This is a meaningful opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities by providing personalized care and support. If you are passionate about empowering others and speak Amharic, we want to hear from you!
Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct care and daily living support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Communicate effectively with Amharic-speaking clients and their families to ensure culturally competent care
  • Assist clients with personal hygiene, meal preparation, and household tasks
  • Support individuals in community integration, vocational activities, and social engagement
  • Document and maintain accurate client progress notes and incident reports
  • Implement individualized support plans (ISPs) in collaboration with care teams
  • Transport and accompany clients to appointments, programs, and community outings
Requirements:
  • Fluency in Amharic (spoken and/or written) is required
  • Prior experience as a Direct Support Professional (DSP), caregiver, or in a related human services role preferred
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a patient, empathetic, and person-centered approach
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
