The Opportunity:
As the Coordinator, Challenge Program & Climbing Wall, you will oversee the management and daily operations of a low- and high-ropes course and climbing wall. You will cultivate and maintain relationships with internal and external partners to create experiential education and recreation opportunities for students and the public. In this role, you will manage program budgets, coordinate operations, and provide supervision, training, and support for program staff.
Additional Information:
This is a full-time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.
Monthly Salary: $4,061.90 to $4,710.17| Commensurate with experience and qualifications
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field (Business, Recreation, Sport Management, Higher Education or related field) and three (3) years of experience directly related to the specialty area to include a minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Possession of at least one current certification as a climbing wall instructor or challenge course facilitator from an industry-recognized organization (e.g., AMGA, CWA, ACCT, or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated computer software skills, including the ability to use Microsoft Office programs, such as: Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Demonstrated challenge course and/or climbing wall management experience including strategic planning, budget management, equipment purchasing and maintenance, and risk management.
  • Demonstrated success in training and supervision of multiple part-time staff according to industry standards and best practices.
  • Professional experience developing and administering successful curriculum to a diverse audience, according to client learning outcomes.
  • Demonstrated success in collaborating with individuals, departments, and student groups.
  • Experience in higher education recreation or student service setting.
  • Demonstrated pursuit of personal professional development through participation in a national industry association or organization.
  • Experience in route setting for a university or recreational climbing wall.

Certifications:
  • Current Level II Challenge Course Practitioner in accordance with the standards as set by the Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT), or equivalent.
  • Current Challenge Course Manager certification in accordance with the standards as set by the Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT), or equivalent.
  • Current certification as a Climbing Wall Instructor in accordance with standards set by Climbing Wall Association (CWA), American Mountain Guide Association (AMGA), or Professional Climbing Instructors Association (PCIA), or equivalent.
  • Current Provider of Climbing Wall Instructor course with either Climbing Wall Association (CWA), American Mountain Guide Association (AMGA), or Professional Climbing Instructors Association (PCIA), or equivalent.
  • Current certification as Single Pitch Instructor from American Mountain Guide Association (AMGA), or Professional Climbing Instructors Association (PCIA), or equivalent.
  • Current Wilderness First Aid (or Wilderness First Responder) certification
