Operational Safety Specialist
City: West Lafayette
Job Description:
What You'll be Doing:
Serves as the department's primary resource for workplace safety and policy compliance, fostering a culture of safety through collaboration, education, and continuous improvement. Partners with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) to implement and support departmental safety initiatives, investigate workplace injuries and incidents, recommend corrective actions, and ensure compliance with applicable regulations, policies, and procedures.
Conducts Integrated Safety Plan (ISP) certification audits, evaluates departmental safety practices, develops and delivers safety training, and provides guidance to leadership and staff on risk reduction and safe work practices. Promotes operational excellence by identifying opportunities to improve safety performance and supporting a safe and healthy environment for employees and the campus community.
This position may involve exposure to heights, extreme temperatures, hazardous chemicals, confined spaces, and lifting requirements of up to 40 pounds.
The typical work schedule for this position is Monday-Friday 7:00am to 3:30pm.

What We Are Looking For:
Education and Experience
Qualified Candidates Will Need:
  • Bachelor's degree required in business, health and safety, occupational safety, or related field
  • 2+ years of experience in general safety, building inspection, safety inspection, accident investigation or related areas
  • Experience in ergonomics preferred
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered

Skills Needed:
  • Good organizational skills are
  • Must have the ability to develop and maintain; effective working relationships, mutual trust and respect with others
  • Must have high ethical and professional behavior standards
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to achieve consensus and enhance the safety culture is necessary
  • A strong commitment to customer service and the AO Physical Facilities Strategic Goals is essential
  • Strong computer skills and Microsoft Office experience
  • Subject to 24-hour callback for emergencies
