Job description

The Foreign Exchange (FX) Accounting team manages global FX results and provides strategic FX guidance for new business initiatives and system launches. With Amazon operating in over 100 countries and managing approximately 1,100 currency pairs, our team handles diverse and complex FX matters, exposures, and system integrations.
Role Overview:
In this role, you will partner with accounting business teams across AWS, digital, store, payments, advertising, and international operations to understand business initiatives, assess FX implications, and establish FX requirements that prevent future technical debt.
What You'll Do:
You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams including accounting, Treasury, Tax, technology, and Corporate Reporting in a complex, high-growth environment. Working closely with internal system teams, you'll drive automation and system enhancements that improve our FX processes.
What We're Looking For:
While specific FX accounting experience is not required, the ideal candidate will demonstrate:
• Ability to quickly learn and apply complex accounting standards, including US GAAP
• Strong technical aptitude to understand system architecture and data flows
• Exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
• Capacity to research and resolve accounting issues independently
• Effective partnership and collaboration skills across technical and business teams
Key job responsibilities
FX Subject Matter Expertise:
• Partner with diverse business teams to understand new initiatives and assess FX implications
• Serve as the primary FX accounting expert, providing guidance and requirements to accounting and technology teams
• Conduct US GAAP research and provide proactive FX guidance on projects to prevent future technical accounting challenges
Monthly Close & Financial Reporting:
• Perform monthly close activities including reconciliations and journal entries
• Drive continuous process improvements in monthly close processes
• Support financial reporting processes and ensure accurate FX accounting treatment
• Research technical accounting issues and coordinate with the technical accounting team to develop and document accounting position papers as needed
• Escalate risks and issues to leadership with appropriate context and recommendations
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of finance or a related analytical field experience
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- CPA
- Experience in accounting management in Big Four with Fortune 500 clients
- Knowledge of GAAP research tools and the FASB codification
- Experience researching and documenting support for accounting conclusions
- Experience working with large-scale data mining and reporting tools (examples: SQL, MS Access, Essbase, Cognos) and other financial systems (examples: Oracle, SAP, Lawson, JD Edwards)
- Experience working with large-scale data mining and reporting tools (i.e. SQL, MS Power Query, Python)

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
