As a Software Development Engineer on the AR Sortation Planning team, you will design, develop, and deploy full-stack robotic planning, tracking, and workcell solutions using AWS infrastructure and AI-driven sortation optimization that are scalable, reliable, and performant

You will build software solutions to improve sortation at scale, improve associate safety and ergonomics, improve associate job satisfaction, and improve site efficiency.
You will work alongside our data scientists, researchers, data engineers, and other software engineers to develop end-to-end sortation solutions. You will architect and implement ML-powered predictive routing algorithms and intelligent work planning systems that optimize package flow, container utilization, and fleet orchestration across our robotics sortation network.
We team cross-functionally with hardware and robotic controls experts to develop pioneering applications in a highly exciting and innovative environment, where your code directly powers adaptive, data-driven decision-making that transforms how millions of packages move through our fulfillment network every day.
Key job responsibilities
- Build scalable, flexible, and maintainable software solutions to innovative robotics technology integration problems.
- Work with peers of diverse backgrounds and experiences to solve challenging problems in a multi-disciplinary environment.
- Take fast-paced, high-octane ownership of end-to-end solutions with a focus on working directly with stakeholders, customers, and teammates.
- Maintain, implement, and deploy existing software services in Production with established customer bases, requiring adoption of and adherence to metrics, alarms, and operational excellence standards.
- Contribute to team technical standards and best practices.
- Analyze and balance trade-offs including - evaluating ML model solutions versus heuristic real-time approaches while considering hardware constraints, latency requirements, as well as dependencies on upstream and downstream services to design optimal end-to-end sortation solutions.

About the team
The AR Sortation Solutions Vertical is responsible for delivering and maintaining high performing package sortation solutions throughout the network. The team collaborates closely with our customers as well as with other verticals, core engineering and orgs, including Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Tech Ops, GSS, Manipulation, Mobility, Core Software, Deployment Engineering, World Wide Design Engineering (WWDE), Sort Tech, and Construction. With several new sortation solutions achieving GA status over the past 3 years, AR Sortation will focus resources on three key areas of development.

First, we will maintain already-deployed systems to ensure robust performance and support new feature requests. Second, we will prioritize a roadmap to deliver improvements targeted for both existing hardware in the field and new installations. These include performance optimizations, such as increased throughput and robustness, as well as significant cost savings for new deployments.

And third, we will focus on new product initiatives that will range from incremental, lower risk efforts to completely new BAG (big audacious goal) programs that change the status quo. By investing in a balanced portfolio, we will deliver annual performance improvements that our customers can plan to, while placing bets on new innovation which will help transform the network and mitigate expected headwinds as we scale to meet growing customer demand.
