What is an Amazon seller?

An Amazon Seller is an individual or business that sells products on Amazon’s marketplace. Sellers can operate under different models, such as private label, wholesale, arbitrage, or dropshipping. They are responsible for sourcing products, managing inventory, optimizing listings, handling customer service, and overseeing logistics. Some sellers use Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA), where Amazon manages storage, shipping, and customer support, while others fulfill orders themselves (FBM). Success as an Amazon Seller requires market research, competitive pricing, and effective marketing strategies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Amazon seller?

Succeeding as an Amazon Seller requires strong business acumen, analytical skills, and knowledge of e-commerce and online marketing strategies. Familiarity with Amazon Seller Central, product research tools, inventory management systems, and digital advertising platforms is essential. Effective time management, adaptability, and problem-solving skills help sellers navigate the rapidly changing marketplace and customer needs. These abilities are vital for building a profitable Amazon business, responding to competition, and sustaining long-term growth.

What are some common challenges faced by Amazon sellers, and how can they be overcome?

Amazon Sellers often face challenges such as managing inventory levels, staying competitive with pricing, handling customer service inquiries, and navigating Amazon's changing policies or algorithms. Proactively using sales analytics and inventory tracking tools can help prevent stock-outs and overstock situations, while monitoring competitor activity allows you to adjust pricing and product listings effectively. Building strong supplier relationships and keeping up with Amazon's platform updates are also crucial for mitigating disruptions. Successful sellers invest time in learning best practices and leveraging support resources within the Amazon Seller community. By staying informed and agile, you can overcome obstacles and grow your business sustainably.

How do you become an Amazon seller?

To become an Amazon seller, you need to create a seller account on Amazon Seller Central, choose a selling plan (individual or professional), and provide necessary information such as business details and payment methods. You may also need to verify your identity and comply with Amazon's policies before listing products for sale.

How much money does an Amazon seller make?

Amazon sellers' earnings vary widely based on factors such as product selection, sales volume, and profit margins. Successful sellers can make from a few hundred dollars to over $100,000 per month, but income depends on their business scale, marketing efforts, and operational costs.

Position Summary

Mad Engine is seeking a hands-on Amazon FBA Channel Manager to own the execution and performance of our Amazon third-party Seller Central/FBA business. This individual contributor will be responsible for driving revenue growth, improving profitability, optimizing catalog performance, and maintaining strong inventory and account health.

The ideal candidate is an analytical, execution-focused Amazon operator who is comfortable working directly in Seller Central. This role partners closely with Marketplace Content, Merchandising, Finance, Data, Operations, Replenishment, Creative, and Retail Media to support the broader e-commerce strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the day-to-day management and optimization of the Amazon Seller Central/FBA business.
  • Drive revenue growth and conversion through ASIN-level analysis, keyword strategy, listing optimization, pricing, promotions, and catalog improvements.
  • Use Seller Central, Helium 10, and internal reporting tools to identify growth opportunities, competitive trends, content gaps, and performance issues.
  • Set listing-optimization priorities and partner with the Marketplace Content Lead, Merchandising, and Creative teams on titles, bullets, images, A+ Content, keywords, and variation structures.
  • Execute Seller Central actions, including listing updates, pricing changes, catalog troubleshooting, suppression resolution, variation maintenance, and issue escalation.
  • Manage Amazon execution for product launches, assortment changes, product transitions, and discontinuations.
  • Monitor channel profitability, including contribution margin, Amazon fees, storage costs, returns, reimbursements, promotions, coupons, and pricing tradeoffs.
  • Own Amazon forecast inputs and partner with Replenishment and Operations teams on inventory availability, inbound planning, excess inventory, aged inventory, stranded inventory, and sell-through.
  • Monitor FBA inventory and operational health, including IPI, in-stock rate, receiving issues, account health, listing health, compliance notifications, and product buyability.
  • Support Prime Day, holiday, and other key Amazon events by coordinating inventory, content, pricing, promotions, and media readiness.
  • Partner with the Retail Media team to align Amazon Ads support with organic priorities, ASIN readiness, inventory availability, and profitability goals.
  • Monitor customer-experience signals, including ratings, reviews, returns, and Voice of the Customer, and elevate recurring product, content, or operational issues.
  • Communicate performance results, risks, priorities, and recommended actions to cross-functional partners and e-commerce leadership.
  • Stay current on Seller Central changes, FBA requirements, Amazon policies and fees, marketplace trends, and best practices.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of e-commerce or marketplace experience, including at least 3 years of hands-on Amazon Seller Central/FBA experience.
  • Proven ability to grow Amazon revenue through listing optimization, keyword strategy, catalog execution, pricing, promotions and conversion improvement.
  • Strong knowledge of Seller Central, FBA operations, catalog management, account health, inventory health, pricing, promotions, and channel profitability.
  • Experience with FBA forecasting, replenishment, inbound planning, in-stock management, excess inventory and aged inventory.
  • Experience using Helium 10 or a comparable Amazon research and optimization platform.
  • Strong analytical skills and advanced proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot Seller Central issues and drive cross-functional resolution.
  • Excellent organization, project-management, communication and collaboration skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, E-commerce, Analytics, Supply Chain or a related field preferred, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing apparel, accessories, licensed products, consumer goods or other high-SKU-count Amazon catalogs.
  • Experience with Amazon Brand Registry, A+ Content, variation management, catalog issues and listing suppressions.
  • Experience partnering with Amazon Ads or Retail Media teams.
  • Experience with Amazon reporting, profitability tools, listing experiments or internal business‑intelligence platforms.
