Job description

Every day, Amazon engineers are relentlessly working to decrease the time between clicking and delivery for our customers. Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT) powers the physical engine at the heart of Amazon. AFT builds and operates software, hardware, and processes that run the global network of fulfillment centers that move many millions of units of inventory, employ tens of thousands of people, and ensure that customers get what they want when we promised we would get it to them.
Our environment is global and complex with a variety of software and systems, including industrial machines and protocols. We are constantly innovating in the ways we are automating and accelerating the delivery and receive of products and packages which includes building custom hardware and applying machine learning, image processing, and real-time data processing using distributed systems. We are looking for a Controls System Engineer, capable of developing next-gen Industrial Control System platforms and automation solutions for AFT. This position will be exposed to the development of custom communications protocols, PLC optimization, diagnostics development and equipment design. You will work closely with an internal inter-disciplinary team, and outside partners to drive key aspects of product definition, execution and test. You must be responsive, flexible and able to succeed within an open collaborative environment.
Key job responsibilities
In this role, you will design and develop solutions involving robotics, data management and precision conveyance. You will participate in large-scale control engineering projects, supporting global deployments of equipment. This position will be filled with a candidate identified as a future leader, capable of driving AFT into the lead of Industrial Control Systems design and we are looking for candidates who are up to the task.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in robotics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field
- 4+ years of industry work experience
- Experience in PLC based controls design, development, implementation and support
- Experience using Linux, demonstrating proficiency with associated tools or languages
- Experience with creating automated alarms, reports and KPI metrics for plant management
- Experience in Industrial networking and communications
- Knowledge of the tools of the trade, including a variety of modern programming languages (Rust, Java, C/C++), and a solid understanding of the Linux operating system
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in computer science or electrical engineering, or 1+ years of professional or military experience
- 4+ years of software development experience
- Experience in English-language communication skills, both written and verbal
- Experience working with and managing third party vendors
- 2+ years of programmable logic controls (PLC) programs experience

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
