Job description

Job Description

The Catering Services Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day execution of catering events within a collegiate dining environment. This position provides leadership to catering staff, ensures exceptional customer service, coordinates event logistics, and maintains high standards of food quality, presentation, safety, and hospitality. The ideal candidate is a service-focused leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about creating memorable experiences for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests.

Job Responsibilities

Event Operations

  • Supervise the setup, service, and breakdown of catered events, including meetings, conferences, athletic events, receptions, and special functions.
  • Ensure all catering events are executed according to client specifications, timelines, and service standards.
  • Conduct pre-event inspections to ensure readiness of staff, equipment, supplies, and service areas.
  • Monitor event execution and promptly resolve operational or customer service concerns.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and support catering staff to ensure exceptional service delivery.
  • Assist with employee scheduling and labor management.
  • Train team members on service standards, food safety, sanitation, and customer service expectations.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive work environment focused on teamwork and accountability.

Customer Service

  • Serve as a primary point of contact during events.
  • Build positive relationships with clients, campus departments, student organizations, and university stakeholders.
  • Ensure guests receive professional, courteous, and attentive service at all times.
  • Address and resolve guest concerns quickly and professionally.

Food Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, and university food safety regulations.
  • Maintain sanitation standards in accordance with ServSafe and company policies.
  • Conduct routine inspections of catering service areas, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Promote workplace safety and enforce safety procedures.

Inventory & Administrative Support

  • Assist with inventory management, equipment tracking, and supply orders.
  • Support management with event planning documentation and operational reporting.
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of food, beverages, supplies, and equipment.
  • Assist with maintaining accurate event records and staffing plans.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience in catering, hospitality, food service, banquet operations, or event services.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events.
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.

This role may have physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling and/or extended walking and standing. This role may also require uniforms and/or usage of Personal Protective equipment (PPE).
