DEPARTMENT: Extrusion

JOB TITLE: Aluminum Extrusion Operator II

REPORTS TO: Shift Facilitator with direction from the Team Captain

SHIFT DAYS / HOURS:
3rd Shift Position - Sunday night to Wednesday night (9:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.) over the course of 4 days (40+ hours). Friday (Thursday night) may be scheduled as needed.

STARTING PAY: $23.15 to $25.33 based on Aluminum Extrusion experience (higher-level experience considered) Potential to earn up to $28.25.

Position Summary

As an Aluminum Extrusion Operator II, you will be responsible for operating and optimizing extrusion press operations with minimal supervision. This includes performing die changes, troubleshooting equipment issues, verifying product quality, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. This role requires advanced knowledge of extrusion processes and the ability to train and assist Operator I team members.

What You Will Be Responsible For:

  • Safely operate and monitor the aluminum extrusion press
  • Perform and assist with die changes efficiently and accurately
  • Troubleshoot press issues and escalate concerns when necessary
  • Inspect parts to ensure compliance with quality standards
  • Monitor press performance, including temperature, speed, and pressure
  • Identify and remove scrap while minimizing waste
  • Perform advanced visual and measurement checks (micrometers, calipers, tape measure)
  • Read, interpret, and execute shop orders and production specifications
  • Assist in training and mentoring Extrusion Operator I employees
  • Communicate equipment issues, quality concerns, or safety risks to Supervisor/Team Captain
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas
  • Work collaboratively with team members across shifts and departments
  • Follow all safety procedures and wear required PPE at all times
  • Participate in continuous improvement and efficiency initiatives
  • Complete special projects and other duties as assigned

Work Environment / Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:

  • Stand and walk for extended periods
  • Use hands to handle tools, controls, and materials
  • Reach, bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch as needed
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds regularly

Additional work environment conditions include:

  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts
  • Loud industrial environment
  • Elevated temperatures and no air conditioning
  • Required use of PPE at all times

Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

What You Will Need:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Successfully pass a skills-based extrusion test
  • 2+ years of aluminum extrusion press experience (preferred)
  • Strong understanding of extrusion processes, tooling, and die setup
  • Ability to operate overhead cranes safely and effectively
  • Proficient in reading measuring tools (tape measure, micrometers, calipers)
  • Ability to read and interpret safety procedures, work instructions, and shop orders
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication and leadership support skills
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and safety
