What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the alternative data position, and why are they important?

To thrive in an Alternative Data role, you need strong analytical skills, experience with data collection and processing, and a background in quantitative disciplines such as finance, statistics, or computer science. Proficiency in programming languages like Python or R, familiarity with data visualization tools, and experience working with big data platforms are essential, with certifications in data analysis or finance being advantageous. These combined abilities are vital for extracting value from unconventional datasets and driving informed business decisions.

What is an alternative data?

An Alternative Data job involves collecting, analyzing, and interpreting non-traditional data sources—such as satellite imagery, web traffic, or transaction data—to generate insights for financial, investment, or business decisions. Professionals in this field work with data engineering, machine learning, and statistical analysis to derive actionable intelligence. These roles are common in hedge funds, private equity firms, and large corporations looking for a competitive edge through unconventional data sources. Skills required typically include programming (Python, SQL), data wrangling, and domain expertise in finance or technology.

What types of projects or data sources do professionals in alternative data roles typically work with?

Professionals in Alternative Data roles often engage with non-traditional datasets such as satellite imagery, social media trends, credit card transaction records, web scraping data, and sensor or geolocation information to uncover actionable insights. Projects may involve evaluating consumer behavior, forecasting economic activity, or identifying trends that standard financial data might miss. The work frequently requires collaborating with data engineers, analysts, and business strategists to source, clean, and interpret large, unstructured datasets. If you enjoy tackling complex data-driven problems and uncovering new patterns to gain a competitive edge, this is a highly dynamic and impactful role.

About the Role
This is a ground-floor opportunity to help build a brand new division at Enformion. We're looking for an experienced, quota-carrying seller to lead new business development for Enformion's Fraud & Risk Mitigation suite. This is a hunter role focused on financial institutions and other fraud-sensitive verticals, reporting directly to the VP of Sales. As one of the first hires into this new division, you'll have a direct hand in shaping its go-to-market approach as well as owning your territory end-to-end: building pipeline, running the sales cycle, and closing new deals and ensuring they go live to drive new revenue.

What You'll Do
- Help establish the go-to-market playbook, processes, and early wins for Enformion's newly formed Fraud Solutions division
- Meet or exceed assigned sales quotas and pipeline objectives for Enformion's Fraud & Risk Mitigation solutions
- Utilize solution-selling and ROI-driven methodologies to sell enterprise fraud risk and identity verification solutions
- Develop and maintain sales plans and strategies to deliver annual sales targets, formulating and executing both strategic and tactical account plans
- Execute each sales activity in accordance with Enformion's sales process, including opportunity identification and qualification, proof of concept, pricing, negotiation, and contract signing
- Work with sales engineers and analytics teams to oversee proof-of-concept engagements and build results presentations for prospects
- Maintain disciplined, accurate forecasting and pipeline reporting across all sales activities
- Acquire and integrate industry and market knowledge on the competitive landscape, emerging fraud typologies, and regulatory trends to sell effectively
- Present the full Enformion platform and lead product demonstrations for prospective and existing clients
What You'll Need
- 3-5 years of experience selling fraud products, with direct experience selling into banks, alternative lenders, and other financial institutions
- A track record of meeting or exceeding sales quota in a solution-selling, enterprise B2B environment
- Ability to sell to and build relationships with Risk, Fraud, and Compliance stakeholders at financial institutions
- Experience running a full sales cycle independently â€" prospecting, discovery, proof of concept, negotiation, and close
- Strong ability to translate technical fraud and risk capabilities into business value for both technical and executive buyers
- Disciplined CRM hygiene and forecasting habits
Nice to Have
- Experience selling identity verification, KYC/AML, or adjacent compliance solutions alongside fraud products
- An existing network of Risk, Fraud, or Compliance executives at banks and financial institutions
- Familiarity with usage-based or data-licensing pricing models (API, batch, or platform delivery)
- Experience selling to eCommerce, marketplace, or collections & recovery buyers in addition to financial services

Benefits
- Flexible PTO
- 401k match
- Dental/Vision/Medical
