Job description

Who We Are
At Alstom, we design, build, and sustain mobility solutions that move people. From high-speed trains and metros to turnkey systems, signaling, infrastructure, and digital mobility, our end-to-end offerings span the full transport ecosystem. Every day, over 80,000 colleagues across 63 countries lead the way toward greener, smarter mobility-connecting cities, reducing carbon emissions, and replacing cars.
Join us in Pittsburgh, PA, as a Test & Commissioning (T&C) Engineer, and help deliver next-generation onboard systems that drive the future of rail.
More than a job: a mission
As a Testing and Commissioning Engineer in Pittsburgh, PA, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and performance of onboard rail systems. Your work will directly impact the journeys of thousands, making city connections safer and more efficient every day.
Your role, Your impact
  • Plan, execute, and supervise testing and commissioning of onboard systems on rail vehicles, ensuring compliance with operational, safety, and performance standards.
  • Support validation and integration testing of signaling, control, communications, and onboard subsystems.
  • Troubleshoot system integration issues, collaborating with design and development teams to resolve root causes.
  • Document results, track nonconformities, propose corrective actions, and capture lessons learned to drive continuous improvement.
  • Enforce safety, environmental, and quality standards throughout all phases of testing and commissioning.

You'll work with sharp, committed teams across engineering, operations, and design - solving complex challenges that shape the future of mobility. As a Testing and Commissioning Engineer, you will be at the forefront of delivering safe and reliable transportation solutions.
What you bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Electromechanical, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 1-2 years of hands-on experience in testing and commissioning within rail or transportation systems.
  • Strong analytical thinking, root-cause analysis, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with electrical and diagnostic tools, and experience troubleshooting hardware/software integration issues.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, customer-focused mindset, with flexibility to travel, work nights, weekends, and holidays when needed and adaptable to changing project needs.

How success is measured
  • Achievement of project milestones and deadlines with high-quality, compliant deliverables.
  • Effective resolution of system integration issues and nonconformities, ensuring operational readiness.
  • Consistent adherence to safety, regulatory, and quality standards throughout all testing and commissioning activities.

  • Opportunities to develop technical and leadership skills through hands-on experience and mentoring.
  • Collaborative, inclusive teams that value diverse perspectives and continuous improvement.
  • Meaningful work that leaves a lasting impact on communities and the future of mobility.

Here, progress isn't always easy - the scale is massive, the tasks are complex - but the impact is real.
Because when the system runs, the train moves, and the city connects - that feeling stays with you. And the legacy lasts.
Why Join Alstom?
You don't need to be a train enthusiast-though you'll likely become one. When you ride on one of our trains with friends or family, you'll take pride in knowing you helped bring it to life. If you're passionate about innovation, integrity, teamwork, and pushing boundaries in mobility-come join us.
