Could you be the full-time onsite Obsolescence Management Engineer in West Mifflin, PA, US we're looking for? This position could also be located in Naperville, IL.
Your future role
Take on a new challenge and apply your comprehensive engineering expertise in a cutting-edge field. You'll work alongside innovative, dedicated, and supportive teammates.
You'll play a pivotal role in managing and preempting obsolescence for our Aftermarket Customers, directly contributing to the growth of Alstom's business through Technical Support and Spares Supply Agreements (TSSSA). Day-to-day, you'll work closely with teams across the business, including Rolling Stock Engineering, Project Management, and Supply Chain, while coordinating with vendors to ensure compliance with customer requirements, preparing procurement specifications, and much more.
We'll look to you for:
  • Developing a thorough understanding of project specifications and requirements related to the Automated People Mover design tasks associated with obsolete parts. ,
  • Leading efforts with vendors to confirm adherence to charter agreements and supplier contracts while ensuring alignment with the obsolescence management plan. ,
  • Contributing to bids and proposals for Obsolescence Management and TSSSA to ensure compliance and competitiveness. ,
  • Building system knowledge of APM mechanical and electrical-electronic norms and standards relevant to automated people movers, such as IEEE and ANSI. ,
  • Delivering technical support and expertise in Automated People Movers (APM) to internal customers. ,
  • Conducting assessments for Obsolescence Management Plans, including Design Mitigation, Risk Assessment, Solutions, and Escalations in accordance with Alstom Global Procedures. ,
  • Implementing Obsolescence Solutions, including Reverse Engineering, Repair, New Design, Supplier Partnerships, Circular Economy initiatives, and Make-to-print processes, to meet FFF specifications and requirements. ,
  • Collaborating within multi-disciplinary teams, engaging with customers, Rolling Stock Engineering, Project Management, Supply Chain, Operations, Finance, Auditors, Platform functions (Tenders, Reference Library, REX), Quality, Validation, and Testing. ,
  • Preparing procurement specifications and technical requirements derived from customer specifications to guide the design of requested parts, with an understanding of the engineering design change process and basic principles of design for manufacturing, GD&T, etc. ,
  • Participating in the ALSTOM Change Control Board (CCB) to ensure all changes are managed effectively.

  • Degree in Railway Engineering, Mechanical, Electronics, Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. ,
  • Experience or understanding of obsolescence management and design life cycle within the automated people mover or rail industry (or similar industries such as transportation vehicles, high- and low-voltage equipment, and discrete electronic components). ,
  • Knowledge of safety management systems, safety risk assessment, and industry standards such as IEEE and ANSI. ,
  • Familiarity with Obsolescence Management tools, IPC, Maintenance Manuals, and the full lifecycle of design, development, and aftermarket considerations. ,
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with internal and external stakeholders. ,
  • Proficiency in mechanical and electrical/electronic design tools, MS Office, PDM, SAP, GSI, and Maximo (or other ERP tools). ,
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to fast-paced environments with a high degree of autonomy. ,
  • Project management experience, including bid and proposal contributions. ,
  • Resourcefulness and resilience in seeking information and solutions across multiple communication platforms.
