An alchemist is a practitioner of alchemy, an ancient philosophical and proto-scientific tradition. Historically, alchemists attempted to transform base metals into noble metals like gold, create elixirs of immortality, and discover universal cures for diseases. While alchemy is not considered a modern scientific discipline, it played a significant role in the development of early chemistry and medicine. Today, 'alchemist' is sometimes used metaphorically for someone who transforms or creates something valuable from basic materials.
