Job Summary

Shambaugh & Son, L.P. is seeking a Alarm Technician. In this role you will be responsible for the inspection, testing, servicing, and/or the installation of various fire alarm systems, fire alarm components, clean agent systems, and suppression systems. Trouble shooting fire alarm malfunctions. Programming of fire alarm panels. All in accordance with applicable fire codes and NFPA standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform on-site inspection, testing, troubleshooting, repair and installation of fire alarm, suppression and releasing systems as well as associated devices in accordance with industry standards.
  • Responsible for reading and understanding assigned project documentation and work orders including scope of work for inspections, and determine if additional information is needed.
  • Inform Coordinator of any problems and concerns with assigned projects
  • Develop a thorough understanding of integrating a fire alarm system with HVAC controls, smoke management systems, elevator controllers, sprinkler/suppression systems, card access, security systems and CCTV
  • Have thorough understanding of the principles of fire alarm protection and fire alarm systems. Understand the specific arrangement and operation of a suppression system(s) and a releasing function(s) and be aware of the hazards associated with inadvertent system discharge for the purpose of inspection, testing and maintenance
  • Report to assignment with required testing tools including suitable multi-meter, hand tools, printer, etc.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, software/systems, programs, schematics and operation/product manuals consistent with the level of training received.
  • Prepare associated paperwork/forms for customer service activities. Return completed documentation required for master customer file, future inspections, service, accounting and payroll in a timely manner as required by procedures
  • Maintain confidential information related to services performed
  • Other duties as assignedย 
Qualifications
  • Experience working as a low voltage fire alarm technician.
  • Familiar with applicable NFPA codes and standards.
  • Obtain and maintain applicable licensing.
  • Member in good standing with IBEW Local 305 Fort Wayne, IN.
  • Proficient in the use of cell phones, Word, email, and electronic reporting platforms.
  • Working knowledge of equipment, testing procedures, and reporting standards.
  • Ability to recognize deficient devices and provide proper corrective action.
  • Familiarity with many different manufacturers of fire alarm systems and components.
  • Ability to move equipment and tools exceeding 50lbs.
  • Perform work in a variety of environments- Steel Mills, Medical Offices, and Manufacturing Facilities.
  • Work is performed indoors and outdoors.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to work from elevated platforms and aerial lifts.
  • Motivated to achieve a high standard of productivity.
  • Off Shift and Overtime may be required at moment's notice.
  • Travel including overnight and weekends to accommodate customer's needs.
  • Believe that customer service is the first priority.
  • Must be organized and self-motivated with a strong work ethic and excellent communication skills.
  • Regular and reliable attendance, including the ability to work extended hours and weekends as required
