Job description

Alabama Public Television (APT) is seeking a full-time Television Technician to assist in our transmitter equipment operations area. The current position opening is in Madison County. APT operates 9 fiber-connected transmitter sites and 18 microwave sites with over 2200 miles of digital bidirectional microwave paths.

The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining and repairing broadcast transmission equipment, ensuring reliable signal delivery across APT’s statewide network. They will work both independently and collaboratively to support technical operations, respond to emergencies, and contribute to the overall mission of public broadcasting in Alabama.

DUTIES:

  • Operate, maintain, and repair electronic television production and broadcasting equipment.
  • Collaborate with supervisor to develop and follow a preventive maintenance schedule for assigned equipment.
  • Respond promptly to emergency maintenance needs to restore broadcast signals.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues using test and monitoring tools, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Complete documentation such as requisitions and reports in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Operate and maintain vehicles for travel to remote broadcast sites.
  • Maintain site appearances during remote visits.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with coworkers, partner agencies, and viewers.
  • Continuously improve technical skills related to equipment operation and maintenance.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduation from a junior college or technical school with a two year degree in electronic communications, industrial electronics, computer science, or a closely related major

  • High school diploma or GED plus two (2) years of experience operating and maintaining broadcast transmitter equipment
