POSITION SUMMARY
An employee in this position performs a variety of skilled duties associated with the safety, operations, maintenance and security of the airport grounds, buildings, operational areas, facilities and equipment. This includes tact and diplomacy when in contact with pilots, corporate and business executives, the public, employees and local officials and members of the Jetport Committee Board. Semi-skilled work abilities related to the needs of clients and airport facilities; performs routine checks of the airport and is responsible for guiding, towing, parking, greeting and organizing aircraft that arrive and/or depart from the airport gate or ramp.
Hiring Range: $15.00 per hour
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
  • Takes service orders; refuels aircraft observing safety regulations in servicing work.
  • Services aircraft by disposing of trash, assisting with tie down, parking, catering, water and ice aboard, and additional concierge services as requested.
  • Assists clients by providing excellent customer service: luggage handling, transportation between hangar and terminal, conversing with pilots, greeting passengers, customers and the public.
  • Ensures fuel truck stocked and prepared to distribute fuel, performing quality control checks to make sure fueling is handled safely and efficiently.
  • Operates radio equipment to both give and receive information, operates computers to track aircraft, and run POS machine(s).
  • Maintains records of aircraft fuel, aircraft types and pilot supply sales necessary to process the collection of monies due.
  • Performs security checks and reports unusual activity of premises.
  • Performs custodial service to maintain cleanliness; including but not limited to vacuuming, mopping, trash collection, window cleaning, sanitize bathroom fixtures; carries out any other task related to cleaning the inside or the outside of airport facilities.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to drive County vehicles.
  • Drives and operates ground-cleaning equipment including but not limited to mowers, golf carts, FOD sweeping equipment, blowers, edgers and lawn trimmers.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
  • High School diploma or GED equivalency and one year of experience with hand tools and related equipment; prefer experience at a general aviation airport or with Fixed Base Operator.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • A valid NC driver's license is required.
  • General knowledge of services requirements of private, commercial, airline and military aircraft including the necessary safety precautions.
  • One (1) year of related work experience;
  • Or equivalent education and/or experience.
*This position requires shift work on a rotating basis, including evenings, weekends and holiday
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of methods and procedures for quality control of aviation fuels.
  • Ability and willingness to work 12-hour shifts on a rotating basis, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to take direction and work with other employees and the public in a courteous, cooperative and respectful manner.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to perform heavy work exerting up to 30 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects; frequently requiring 65 pounds of force to move objects; and occasionally requiring to exert up to 100 pounds of force to move objects. This work also involves the physical abilities of balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, perceiving sounds at normal speaking levels, discriminating among odors, kneeling, lifting, having manual dexterity, using mental acuity, pulling, pushing, speaking, standing, stooping, shouting to be heard above ambient noise, and walking. An incumbent must also possess the visual acuity to analyze data, make observations, operate machinery, use a computer, and inspect for defects.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The employee works under both indoor and outside environmental conditions; is exposed to significant noise and vibrations and physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical part and electrical current; works in high places, narrow aisles, crawl spaces, and areas which could cause claustrophobia; and has exposure to high heat, chemicals, oils, fumes, dusts, odors, or poor ventilation.
Successful completion of a drug screening and criminal background check will be required as a condition of employment.
