Position Overview
The Ramp Safety Manager at Sky Chefs is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining safety protocols and procedures to ensure the safety and efficiency of ramp operations to include ramp, employee,security and fleet. This role is crucial in fostering a culture of safety, mitigating risks, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and company policies. The Safety Manager will work collaboratively with various departments to identify safety concerns, conduct thorough investigations of incidents, and provide training to enhance the safety awareness and practices of all ramp personnel.
  • Work location: onsite @ Sky Chefs near George Bush Intercontinental International Airport
  • Work schedule: Monday-Friday 8am-5:30pm. Must be flexible to variations in this schedule based on business needs.
  • We operate 24/7, 365

Main Accountabilities
  • To ensure compliance of company employee and ramp safety initiatives and airline requirements at assigned Customer Service Centers (CSCs)
  • Address safety issues with internal and external customers and facilitating successful resolutions
  • Audit of CSCs in pro-active stance to include training, retraining and new hire files, documentation of records and standardization of Safety Management Guide and Ramp Safety Operating Procedures
  • Conduct mock OSHA and Ramp Safety Audits at CSCs
  • Coach and support CSCs to ensure customer satisfaction in airline audits and compliance with airline requirements
  • Coach and support CSCs to ensure trainers are trained properly to conduct driver/guide/coordinator training
  • Analyze trends in employee injuries, aircraft, auto and property damages and help implement action plans to achieve reduction in damages and injuries
  • Provide accident/injury investigation and root cause analysis training for CSCs
  • Actively participate in safety meetings with business partners (e.g. ARTEX, Continental, UPSLT-Delta)
  • Attend customer training for certification of aircraft doors, galleys, etc
  • Oversee the collecting and trending analysis of all employee injuries, aircraft, auto and property damages
  • Implement action plans to support proactive measures to help CSCs achieve major reduction in employee injuries and aircraft damages
  • Administer regulatory compliance with ramp issues dealing with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Federal Aviation Agency (FAA), Environmental Protection Administration (EPA), Department of Transportation (DOT), and airline customer requirements
  • Participate with airline manufacturers to design new trucks for new air crafts
  • Participate and support company sponsored initiatives such as Lean Manufacturing
  • Model corporate values and participate as required in groups, initiatives and advisory bodies
  • Proactively support other departments and functions as the Subject Matter Expert

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Bachelors Degree in Safety or Aviation Ground Safety preferred
  • 5+ years operations and safety experience required
  • Strong understanding and applicability of Employee Safety, Ramp Safety and or Ground Handling Safety Area (OSHA, FAA, DOT)
  • Demonstrated experience managing and maintaining relationships with airline security personnel, airport authorities, local, state and federal law enforcement authorities
  • Ability to work with legal counsel to prepare cases and must be able to gather and preserve evidence for presenting
  • Demonstrated ability to influence managers by establishing and maintaining collaborative partnerships
  • Good communication, presentation skills and organizational ability
  • Ability to interact, communicate and train management at all levels
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Windows-based computer applications
