How much do aircraft manufacturing engineer jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 12, 2026, the average yearly pay for aircraft manufacturing engineer in the United States is $80,789.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $65,500.00 and $95,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Aircraft Manufacturing Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Aircraft Manufacturing Engineer, you need a solid background in aerospace engineering or a related field, along with strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and quality standards. Familiarity with CAD software, manufacturing execution systems (MES), and industry certifications such as Six Sigma or AS9100 are commonly required. Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and communication skills set top performers apart in this role. These abilities are crucial for ensuring aircraft components are manufactured efficiently, safely, and in compliance with rigorous industry regulations.

What engineers make $500,000?

Aircraft manufacturing engineers typically do not earn $500,000 annually; such high salaries are more common among executive-level roles or highly specialized aerospace engineers with extensive experience, advanced skills, and leadership responsibilities. Salaries at this level often involve bonuses, stock options, or profit sharing in large aerospace companies.

What is the difference between Aircraft Manufacturing Engineer vs Aircraft Design Engineer?

AspectAircraft Manufacturing EngineerAircraft Design Engineer
Primary FocusOversees manufacturing processes, assembly, and production efficiencyDesigns aircraft components and systems, focusing on innovation and specifications
Required SkillsManufacturing techniques, quality control, production planningCAD software, aerodynamics, structural analysis
Work EnvironmentFactories, production plants, manufacturing facilitiesDesign studios, engineering labs, CAD environments
CertificationsOften requires FAA or EASA manufacturing certificationsDesign certifications like EASA Part 21 or FAA Part 23

While both roles are integral to aircraft development, Aircraft Manufacturing Engineers focus on the production and assembly processes, ensuring efficient and compliant manufacturing. In contrast, Aircraft Design Engineers concentrate on creating and developing aircraft designs and specifications. Both roles require specialized skills and certifications but differ mainly in their focus within the aircraft lifecycle.

How much does an aircraft engineer's salary?

An aircraft manufacturing engineer's salary typically ranges from $70,000 to $110,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and certifications. Entry-level positions may start lower, while experienced engineers with specialized skills can earn higher wages, especially in aerospace hubs or with advanced certifications.

What does an Aircraft Manufacturing Engineer do?

An Aircraft Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and overseeing the manufacturing processes of aircraft and their components. They work to ensure that all parts and assemblies meet strict safety, quality, and regulatory standards. Their duties often include collaborating with design teams, troubleshooting production issues, optimizing manufacturing methods, and implementing new technologies to improve efficiency. Additionally, they may be involved in testing prototypes and conducting inspections to ensure that finished products meet engineering specifications.

Can I make 200k as an aerospace engineer?

Aircraft manufacturing engineers can earn $200,000 or more annually, especially with extensive experience, advanced skills, and working in high-cost regions or for large aerospace companies. Salaries vary based on location, education, certifications, and specialization within aerospace engineering. Senior roles or those with managerial responsibilities tend to have higher compensation levels.

What engineers make $300,000 a year?

Aircraft Manufacturing Engineers can earn $300,000 or more annually, especially with extensive experience, advanced certifications, and leadership roles in aerospace companies. High salaries are often associated with senior positions, specialized skills in aerodynamics or systems integration, and working in high-demand or competitive markets.

What are some common challenges faced by Aircraft Manufacturing Engineers during the production process?

Aircraft Manufacturing Engineers often encounter challenges such as meeting tight production deadlines while ensuring strict adherence to safety and quality standards. Coordinating between multidisciplinary teams—such as design, quality assurance, and assembly—can be complex, especially when integrating new technologies or addressing unexpected issues on the production line. Additionally, maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements and adapting to continuous process improvements are ongoing aspects of the role. Strong problem-solving skills and effective communication are key to overcoming these challenges.
