EchoStar has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Electrical Engineer (In-Flight Entertainment & Connectivity) in our Hughes Network Systems division.


Job Duties and Responsibilities

This role will lead the system definition, requirements management, architectural design, and integration and testing of aviation solutions through the full product lifecycle. This position will work with technical teams to define and integrate solutions that exceed customer expectations, adhere to quality objectives, and address product, market, and regulatory requirements. This position will be located at our office in Melbourne, FL.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead detailed design of circuit card assemblies (CCAs), including schematic capture, component selection, and PCB layout oversight
  • Develop and test power supply circuits (AC/DC and DC/DC) for IFE and connectivity systems
  • Development and test of Single Board Computers and support electronics/equipment
  • Ensure designs comply with DO-160 environmental qualification requirements for commercial aircraft
  • Participate in electrical design throughout the program life-cycle, from requirement generation, through schematic capture, PCB layout, and verification/validation
  • Generate and review engineering documentation including schematics, BOMs, design analyses, and qualification reports
  • Support hardware integration, bring-up, debugging, and troubleshooting in both lab and aircraft test environments
  • Collaborate with mechanical, systems, and certification engineers to ensure seamless system integration
  • Work closely with suppliers and manufacturing teams to ensure build quality and production readiness
  • Travel up to 10%

Skills, Experience and Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s in electrical engineering or related technical field
  • 8+ years of experience in electrical design engineering, preferably within aerospace
  • 3 yrs of experience with EDA tools such as Altium, Cadence, Creo, OrCAD, Mentor Graphics, or similar

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Prior work in schematic capture, PCB layout, and CCA design with knowledge of IPC standards
  • Prior experience using analog and power supply (switching regulators, converters, and distribution)
  • Prior experience designing single board computer designs and digital communication protocols

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with DO-160 environmental qualification and aerospace certification practices
  • Prior experience with Boeing and Airbus qualification processes for IFE or connectivity equipment
  • Familiarity with aircraft cabin systems (connectivity, entertainment, or passenger experience electronics)
  • Development within Aerospace RTCA/DO-160 environmental standards and knowledge of the unique Boeing (D6) and Airbus (ABD0100) qualification requirements
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of microcontroller or DSP designs
  • Knowledge of Firmware (VHLD) or Software (C/Python)
  • Knowledge of EMI/EMC compliance and mitigation techniques
  • Experience working with DO-254/178 processes for hardware/SW assurance
  • Understanding of reliability engineering for aerospace electronics
  • Masters in Electrical Engineering or related technical field
