Senior Telecom OSS Database Administrator (DBA)

Location: Piscataway, NJ  - onsite

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer and support database platforms for telecom OSS applications across development, testing, staging, and production environments.
  • Manage enterprise database technologies including:
    • Oracle
    • Informix
    • Postgres/MySQL
    • Additional relational database platforms as needed
  • Perform database installation, upgrades, patching, migrations, backup/recovery, replication, and performance tuning activities.
  • Support platform modernization initiatives involving migration from Solaris, HP-UX, and legacy Windows systems to Red Hat Enterprise Linux and modern Windows environments.
  • Monitor and optimize database and platform performance for high-volume telecom operational systems.
  • Collaborate with application, middleware, cloud, infrastructure, and network teams during transformation and migration programs.
  • Support hybrid deployment environments spanning on-prem data centers, Azure, and AWS Outposts.
  • Troubleshoot production issues involving database, middleware, storage, connectivity, and application platform layers.
  • Support middleware and messaging integrations including:
    • IBM MQ
    • Tuxedo
  • Participate in high-availability, disaster recovery, and resiliency planning for mission-critical OSS systems.
  • Develop automation scripts and operational procedures to improve platform reliability and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain technical documentation, support runbooks, and operational standards.

 

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience supporting enterprise database and platform environments within large-scale distributed systems.
  • Strong hands-on expertise with:
    • Oracle Database Administration
    • Informix Database Administration
    • SQL performance tuning and optimization
  • Experience supporting Unix/Linux environments including:
    • Solaris
    • HP-UX
    • Red Hat Enterprise Linux
  • Working knowledge of Windows Server environments.
  • Experience with middleware and messaging systems such as:
    • IBM MQ
    • Tuxedo
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across infrastructure, database, and application layers.
  • Experience supporting mission-critical applications with 24x7 operational requirements.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Telecom OSS/BSS domain experience supporting landline or TDM voice network environments.
  • Understanding of telecom switching systems such as:
    • 4ESS
    • 5ESS
  • Familiarity with TDM network operations, provisioning systems, inventory management, and service activation workflows.
  • Exposure to legacy telecom communication frameworks such as Datakit and lib-e/G2.
  • Experience with cloud migration and hybrid infrastructure deployment models.
  • Knowledge of automation, scripting, and DevOps practices.
  • ITIL process knowledge and operational support experience preferred.
