Job Duties

The Virginia Information Technologies Agency (VITA) is excited to offer a competitive opportunity to serve as an AI Support Specialist with the Enterprise and Intelligent Solutions Division.
We are seeking an AI Support Specialist who will play a key role in supporting the evaluation, adoption, and responsible use of AI technologies across the organization.
This position provides hands-on technical facilitation, user enablement, and operational support for a range of AI tools, including Claude, OpenAI, AWS, Microsoft 365 Copilot, and Google Gemini.
The specialist will partner with business units, IT teams, and project stakeholders to assist in planning and executing AI-related proof of concepts (POCs), developing success metrics, drafting user documentation, and enabling workforce adoption.
Key responsibilities include:
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, priorities and timelines in a dynamic environment
Assist with planning, execution and facilitation of Proof-Of-Concepts across multiple AI categories and use cases
Develop and maintain measurable success criteria, evaluation metrics, and reporting frameworks for each Proof-Of-Concept
Support organizational AI adoption efforts, including change management activities and stakeholder engagement
Contribute to the development and maintenance of user guides, FAQs, quick start documents and knowledge articles
Deliver user training, demos and enablement sessions for technical and non-technical audiences
Provide ongoing support to agencies and business units regarding AI tools, access, usage and troubleshooting
Assist in reinforcing acceptable use policies, data security requirements and responsible AI guidelines
Collaborate with security, compliance and architecture teams to ensure solution alignment with enterprise standards
Track and document user feedback, issues and enhancement requests to inform continuous improvement
Assist users in testing AI solutions
Stay current with emerging AI capabilities, product changes and best practices to support internal innovation

Minimum Qualifications

Entry-level experience working with generative AI tools or AI assisted development platforms (e.g., Claude, OpenAI, etc.) to accomplish a defined task or produce a specific business outcome.
Experience supporting technical pilots, Proof-Of-Concepts, or early-stage technology evaluations, with the ability to describe its scope, success metrics and outcome.
Experience with translating business needs into AI use cases.
Entry-level experience with scripting languages (Python, PowerShell, React, etc.), sufficient to read, modify, or write basic automation or integration code.
Experience creating technical documentation, user guides, or instructional content.
Experience delivering training, workshops, or end user enablement activities for VITA stakeholders and at AI Community of Practice events.
Entry-level experience with responsible AI principles, acceptable use policies, data governance, and privacy considerations.
Experience with communicating and working with diverse stakeholders across technical and non-technical teams.
Experience with identifying and escalating risks related to AI adoption, responsible use, and data protection.

Additional Considerations

Experience working in government, regulated environments, or enterprise scale organizations.
Exposure to prompt engineering techniques or workflow optimization using AI tools.
Familiarity with IT service management processes (e.g., incident, request, knowledge management).
Preferred AI-related certifications e.g., Open AI, Anthropic certification programs, or comparable industry-recognized credentials.
