Job description

Overall Job Summary

The Senior Analyst, Audit Analytics & Automation supports the use of analytics, automation, and AI-enabled risk monitoring across the internal audit lifecycle to deliver risk-focused insights that strengthen audit planning, testing, continuous monitoring, and investigations. Reporting to the Manager, Audit Analytics and Strategic Initiatives, this role serves as a senior technical resource within Internal Audit and is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering scalable analytics and digital solutions that improve audit coverage, risk identification, and execution. This role also partners with audit leadership, audit teams, and business stakeholders to turn enterprise data and business needs into practical solutions that advance the department's analytics capabilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)

Audit Analytics Delivery

  • Support the integration and delivery of analytics across the audit lifecycle, including planning, risk assessment, testing, continuous monitoring, and investigations.
  • Design and execute advanced analytics that expand audit coverage beyond traditional sample-based testing through broader population-based review and targeted identification of trends, anomalies, and control exceptions.
  • Analyze complex datasets from enterprise systems, including SAP, POS, and Manhattan WMS, to identify anomalies, trends, control weaknesses, emerging risks, and opportunities for enhanced audit insight.
  • Support audit planning and execution by identifying opportunities for continuous auditing or enhanced monitoring.

Strategic and Complex Audits

  • Lead, co-lead, or support complex, high-risk, or ambiguous audits and investigations requiring advanced judgment and analytical depth.
  • Assess analytics approaches for completeness, accuracy, and relevance, and communicate assumptions, limitations, and risks clearly to audit teams and leadership.
  • Identify and deliver digital solutions that address key business challenges and provide meaningful insights to support risk assessment, audit execution, and decision-making.

Solution Development and Automation

  • Design, develop, maintain, and enhance analytic and automation solutions using tools such as Alteryx, Power BI, SQL, Python, or similar technologies to query, mine, and analyze large, complex datasets.
  • Contribute to the department's analytics and automation roadmap by identifying high-impact opportunities, supporting prioritization efforts, and helping develop scalable tools, templates, and methodologies across the audit lifecycle.
  • Support the implementation and governance of AI-enabled tools within Internal Audit by helping define practical use cases, usage standards, and controls that promote responsible, effective, and sustainable adoption.

Partnership and Technology Enablement

  • Partner with Internal Audit, management, and cross-functional stakeholders to evaluate data sources, reporting capabilities, business processes, and risk exposures, and translate them into actionable analytics and technology solutions.
  • Communicate progress, analytical results, and technical findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences, including executive leadership.
  • Drive cross-departmental engagement to help teams assess opportunities, build technology capabilities, and implement scalable solutions that strengthen reporting, controls, and business processes.

Capability Support and Knowledge Sharing

  • Support the continued advancement of analytics, automation, and AI capabilities within Internal Audit through tool development, documentation, knowledge sharing, and informal coaching.
  • Support consistency in analytics delivery by helping maintain reusable tools, templates, and repeatable methods.
Required Qualifications

Experience: 5+ years of audit experience. Retail experience is a plus.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or related field from an accredited college or university.

Preferred knowledge, skills or abilities
  • Strong hands-on experience with analytics, automation, and data visualization tools such as Power BI, SQL, Alteryx, Python, R, AuditBoard, or similar technologies.
  • Experience working with enterprise systems, data warehouses, and large operational datasets.
  • Knowledge of business processes, risk assessment, internal controls, and internal audit methodology.
  • Strong understanding of automation techniques, scripting, repeatable analytics design, and digital solution development.
  • Ability to compile and analyze information, develop conclusions, and provide practical solutions to business problems.
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to translate technical findings into clear, meaningful insights for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Knowledge of enterprise resource planning systems and operational data environments, including SAP, POS, and warehouse management systems, is preferred.
  • Knowledge of The IIA's Global Internal Audit Standards is preferred.
  • Ability to travel overnight, as needed, to stores, distribution centers, and other business locations (5%-10%).
