Job description

The Senior Manager, Generative AI Research & Science will be a core contributor to Marriott's AI transformation efforts. This role will partner with the Director, Generative AI Research Science to apply expertise in industrial-organizational psychology, human factors, and applied research to ensure AI solutions are designed, implemented, and scaled with people at the center. 

In addition, this role will help identify high-impact opportunities for AI across workflows and processes, translating business challenges into structured research, pilots, and practical applications that inform product and operational decisions. 

The Senior Manager will engage with engineers, designers, data scientists, and business leaders to create human-first AI tools, assess workforce impact, and guide enterprise adoption strategies. This thought leader will drive research-based insights, ethical AI practices, and applied evaluation approaches to inform AI solution design, prioritization, and scaling decisions that accelerate responsible AI integration across global operations. By combining rigorous research with practical application, this role ensures Marriott's AI initiatives deliver measurable business value while fostering trust, transparency, and workforce readiness. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Human-Centered AI : Support integration of behavioral science into the design of AI-enabled products and services, ensuring usability, trust, and transparency for associates and customers. Partner with product, design, tech and engineering teams to translate workflow challenges into AI-enabled solutions and improved process flows, , where AI augments human work to drive efficiency and effectiveness. 

  • Applied Research & Measurement: Partner with Marriott's Data & Analytics organization to design and execute qualitative and quantitative studies to evaluate AI tools in pilot and scaled environments; translate findings into actionable recommendations for executives and product teams. Define success metrics and support structured testing or pilot efforts to assess AI impact in real-world contexts. Design low-error methods of collecting user feedback on solutions post-release - both qualitative and quantitative - so that product teams can continuously improve solutions based on real user behavior. 

  • Organizational Impact & Workforce Readiness: Conduct research and analysis to understand how AI affects roles, skills, workflows, and decision-making; partner with Marriott's Organizational Capability Center of Excellence to design strategies for adoption, upskilling, and job redesign. Analyze how AI changes workflows, decision points, and task distribution, identifying opportunities for improved human + AI collaboration. Change Enablement & Education: Engage with Learning & Development and HR Change & Communications Teams to support frameworks, training programs, and messaging that accelerate responsible AI adoption, aligning with Marriott's culture and operational priorities. Provide input into enablement approaches based on research findings and observed user needs, ensuring solutions are intuitive and adoption is driven by demonstrated value.  

  • AI Ethics & Governance: Collaborate with Privacy, Legal, and Information Security teams to identify and mitigate bias, measure fairness, and develop responsible AI guardrails. Incorporate ethical considerations and fairness checks into research design and evaluation processes. 

Required and Preferred Qualifications 

  • 4+ years of experience combined in qualitative user research, quantitative research, and data analysis. , and leadership  

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Sociology, Psychology, Data Science, Business Analytics, or a related field. 

  • Experience translating business or workflow challenges into structured research and pilots, as well as developing measurement plans and practical solutions. 

  • Familiarity with AI ethics and responsible AI practices. 

  • Comfort working in cross-functional environments with product, engineering, and business teams. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • 1+ years of driving AI adoption into ways of working. 

  • Master's degree or PhD in Sociology, Psychology, Data Science, Business Analytics, or a related field.
