Overall Responsibility:

The AI Developer supports the organization’s artificial intelligence initiatives by researching emerging technologies and assisting with the development and implementation of AI-powered solutions. This role blends technical expertise with forward-thinking solutions and requires someone who is equally comfortable evaluating cutting-edge tools as they are getting their hands dirty in the platform.

This role is designed to grow. In the near term, the focus is on individual contributions, doing research, making tool decisions, and building solutions directly.

Accountabilities:

Research & Development

  • Continuously monitor and evaluate the latest advancements across AI vendors and platforms, including Microsoft, Anthropic, OpenAI/GPT, Perplexity, and others.
  • Identify and assess emerging technologies across priority AI domains, with an initial focus on:
    • Conversational AI — chatbots and tailored AI assistants (e.g., Claude, custom LLM deployments);
    • Machine Learning — researching and evaluating emerging machine learning technologies, frameworks, and techniques, such as LLMs, generative AI, PyTorch, TensorFlow, and other advancements, to identify opportunities for improving our products and capabilities
    • Big Data & AI Infrastructure — assessing platforms like Databricks vs. competing large data platforms for data aggregation and AI readiness.
  • Translate research findings into actionable technology recommendations for business use.

Development

  • Support the design and implementation of AI workflows and solutions end-to-end.
  • Operate hands-on within platforms — learning, mapping, and building solutions directly before scaling them to a broader team.
  • Bridge business needs and technical execution, ensuring solutions deliver measurable value.
  • Performance Optimization - Monitor and improve model performance, efficiency, scalability, and resource utilization.
  • Data Preparation - Collect, clean, transform, and analyze data to ensure it is suitable for machine learning applications.
  • Experimentation - Develop and run experiments to compare different models, approaches, and techniques and determine the most effective solutions.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Proficiency with modern AI/ML ecosystems and key vendors across conversational AI, machine vision, and data platforms.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and experience with libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, NumPy, and Pandas.
  • Experience working with large datasets, SQL, and data processing pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience building and deploying AI solutions.
  • Familiarity with Git, Docker, APIs, and cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure.
  • Experience taking ML projects from experimentation/prototyping through to production is an asset.
  • Experience working with LLMs, generative AI, NLP, computer vision, or other relevant AI technologies.
  • Comfortable operating in a greenfield environment — defining structure and governance where none yet exists.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Exposure to industrial, manufacturing, or heavy industry environments is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field or diploma equivalent.

Compensation Package:

  • Salary range: $80,000 - $90,000 annually
  • Variable Bonus potential
  • We provide a competitive extended benefits package that supports employee wellbeing and enhances the overall employee experience.
