Ai Developer Advocate information

How does an AI Developer Advocate balance technical work with community engagement responsibilities?

As an AI Developer Advocate, you'll often split your time between hands-on technical tasks—like building sample applications, writing tutorials, or testing new AI tools—and engaging with developer communities through events, online forums, and social media. This dual focus requires strong time management and adaptability, as you'll need to stay current with AI technologies while also translating complex concepts for diverse audiences. Collaboration with product, engineering, and marketing teams is common to ensure accurate messaging and gather feedback from users. This balance can be challenging but is rewarding for those passionate about both technology and community building.

What is an AI Developer Advocate?

An AI Developer Advocate is a professional who bridges the gap between AI technology providers and the developer community. They help developers understand and effectively use AI tools, platforms, and frameworks by creating educational resources, offering technical support, and gathering feedback to improve products. AI Developer Advocates often speak at conferences, write tutorials, and engage with developers both online and in person. Their goal is to foster a vibrant, informed community and ensure that AI technologies are accessible and useful to developers of all skill levels.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an AI Developer Advocate?

To thrive as an AI Developer Advocate, you need a solid background in computer science, AI/ML concepts, and programming languages like Python, often supported by a relevant degree or industry experience. Familiarity with popular AI frameworks (such as TensorFlow or PyTorch), cloud platforms, and strong technical writing skills are essential, along with experience using developer community tools like GitHub and Stack Overflow. Exceptional communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills help you effectively engage and educate diverse developer audiences. These abilities are crucial for building trust, fostering adoption, and bridging the gap between AI product teams and the broader developer community.

Job description

About Onehouse
Onehouse is a mission-driven company dedicated to freeing data from data platform lock-in. We deliver the industry's most interoperable data lakehouse through a cloud-native managed service built on Apache Hudi. Onehouse enables organizations to ingest data at scale with minute-level freshness, centrally store it, and make available to any downstream query engine and use case (from traditional analytics to real-time AI / ML).

We are a team of self-driven, inspired, and seasoned builders that have created large-scale data systems and globally distributed platforms that sit at the heart of some of the largest enterprises out there including Uber, Snowflake, AWS, Linkedin, Confluent and many more. Riding off a fresh $35M Series B backed by Craft, Greylock and Addition Ventures, we're now at $68M total funding and looking for rising talent to grow with us and become future leaders of the team. Come help us build the world's best fully managed and self-optimizing data lake platform!

Onehouse is delivering the next generation of cloud data pipelining by building a fully managed cloud data lakehouse platform. As we execute our product-led growth (PLG) strategy and introduce cutting-edge initiatives like quanton.dev, our goal is to empower organizations to build open, fast, and scalable data architectures without vendor lock-in.

We are seeking a Senior Developer Advocate to become the primary public technical advocate of Onehouse. This is a high-visibility, mission-critical role designed for an active, highly technical member of the data and engineering ecosystem. You will act as a trusted product evangelist, guiding developers, architects, and AI practitioners on how to design next-generation data lakehouse architectures. By translating complex infrastructure capabilities into engaging narratives, you will play an instrumental role in driving the awareness, adoption, and scaling of the Onehouse platform.
A Typical Day
Technical Storytelling & Content Creation
  • Author Authoritative Content: Write high-quality, deeply technical blog posts, tutorials, architectural blueprints, and deep-dives for onehouse.ai and quanton.dev.
  • Build Social Influence: Maintain a highly active, influential presence across developer-focused social platforms (specifically LinkedIn and X) to drive industry-wide conversations.
  • Deliver Compelling Presentations: Represent Onehouse on the public stage by delivering technical talks, running interactive workshops, hosting webinars, and participating in podcasts or developer panels.
Hands-on Technical Enablement
  • Develop Production-Grade Demos: Build, maintain, and open-source complete reference implementations, demo applications, and integration templates on GitHub.
  • Showcase Ecosystem Integrations: Architect and showcase seamless integrations connecting Onehouse with modern data infrastructure tools including Apache Spark, Apache Hudi, Apache Iceberg, Trino, Apache Flink, Apache Kafka, Apache Airflow, dbt, Ray, pyTorch, Apache Polaris.
Community Engagement & Feedback Loops
  • Unite the Ecosystem: Serve as a core advocate and technical resource across open-source communities, including the Apache Software Foundation and modern Lakehouse groups.
  • Drive the Product Feedback Loop: Partner directly with Product Management and Engineering. Gather unfiltered feedback from developers and customers to validate new capabilities, shape product messaging, and directly influence our roadmap.
  • Collaborate Internationally: Work alongside Marketing to coordinate major product launches, lead technical campaigns, and manage analyst briefings with technical authority.
What You Bring to the Table:
Required Experience & Technical Skills
  • 5+ Years of Developer-Facing Experience: Proven background in roles such as Developer Relations, Developer Advocacy, Solutions Engineering, Technical Product Management, or Software Engineering.
  • Deep Data/Lakehouse Domain Expertise: Strong conceptual and practical understanding of modern data lakehouse architectures, open table formats, metadata management, data governance and cloud-native data management.
  • Hands-on Stack Proficiency: Practical experience building, operating, and troubleshooting production pipelines utilizing data technologies such as Apache Spark, Apache Hudi, Apache Iceberg, Trino/Presto, Apache Flink, or Apache Kafka.
  • Cloud Infrastructure Background: Exposure to deploying data solutions on cloud environments, including AWS, Azure, GCP, Databricks, or Snowflake.
  • Programming Skills: Strong coding fluency in at least one modern language, such as Python, Java, Scala, or Go.
  • Demonstrated Communication Portfolio: An active public portfolio of written technical content (blogs, guides, docs) and experience speaking in public forums, conferences, or webinars.
Preferred Qualifications & Assets
  • Established Digital Presence: An active, highly engaged public following within the data engineering or AI developer community (e.g., active on LinkedIn, X, personal newsletters, or podcasts).
  • AI Data Infrastructure Experience: Familiarity with vector databases, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines, or building data platforms that fuel AI/ML workloads.
  • Ecosystem Connections: Existing professional relationships within the open-source communities surrounding Spark, Hudi, Iceberg, Trino, or Flink.
  • Developer Tooling Background: Experience building developer-focused libraries, custom SDKs, APIs, or CLI tools.
What Success Looks Like in Year One
By the end of your first year, you will have successfully established yourself as a core technical driver of Onehouse's growth, delivering on the following major outcomes:
  • Elevated Industry Authority: You have become a highly recognized technical voice for Onehouse by consistently publishing top-tier content across onehouse.ai and quanton.dev, while expanding our organic footprint and engagement across key social platforms like LinkedIn and X.
  • Active Ecosystem Presence: You have educated the broader data engineering community on modern lakehouse architectures by delivering compelling talks and running hands-on workshops at leading industry conferences, community meetups, webinars, and partner events.
  • Scalable Enablement Assets: You have designed and open-sourced a robust suite of reusable demonstrations, sample applications, and reference architectures that directly accelerate product adoption, developer onboarding, and customer success.
  • Bi-directional Feedback Loop: You have cultivated trusted relationships with developers, customers, analysts, and open-source communities-using those connections to bring critical, actionable technical feedback back to our Product and Engineering teams to help shape our future roadmap.
