Job description

Who we are

With its A.I.-powered robotic technology platform, Symbotic is changing the way consumer goods move through the supply chain. Intelligent software orchestrates advanced robots in a high-density, end-to-end system - reinventing warehouse automation for increased efficiency, speed and flexibility.

What we need

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Middleware Software Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining our middleware layer for all mobile robots. You will work with a team of engineers and be responsible for feature ownership, providing technical expertise in areas such as inter process communication, process management, and bot logging. We are looking for a person who thrives in a creative, collaborative, and agile development environment.

What we do

We are a talented team of roboticists and software engineers responsible for all software and firmware aspects of our mobile robots. These mobile robots are responsible for handling cartons inside the warehouse structure, moving them to and from storage locations. The mobile robots are key to the efficient operation of the Symbotic systems, and their reliability is paramount.

What you will do
  • Lead and contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of middleware on our robotic platforms
  • Design and develop middleware components for robotics systems
  • Build and maintain logging, diagnostics, telemetry, and observability infrastructure
  • Develop process management systems for launching, monitoring, restarting, and supervising robotic software services
  • Design communication frameworks for reliable data exchange between distributed software components
  • Deploy, validate, and troubleshoot software on physical bots and simulation environments
What you'll need
  • Minimum 8 years of experience with a Bachelor's degree in computer science, Robotics, Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience building production-quality software in C++
  • Strong understanding of Linux systems, process management, networking, IPC and system services
  • Nice to Have Experience with ROS2 and DDS
  • Experience with TCP/IP, UDP and other network protocols
Our environment

Up to 10% of travel may be required. Employees must have a valid driver's license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations. The employee is responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses personally to be reimbursed on a bi-weekly basis.
